taken to the limit at petriei went to the petrie steam shed today to discuss the next steam up. the secretary didnt have time to talk. the shed was in a FLAP.!!
as mentioned before the shed had two engines given to them by the qld govt. these were crated in large shipping containers and were located a distance from the shed down some gravel tracks.she said she couldnt talk now the boys are in trouble! what i said! yes the boys have put the wheels back on and found they couldnt tow the engine from the front and had to tow it from behind.??????? ah she said go down and take a look. i could hear the clanging of gears and choof choof. well what had happened was the "boys" had steamed up the marshall and were attemting to tow this fowler engine up the track. they had to raise maxium steam and could only go about 100 yds before losing power. i didnt have my camera then i thought ah mobile phone! so all isnt lost.! ive never been up close to a engine taken to the limit before. its awsome! they also hooked up the crane but that was for safety reasons going up the hill. one highlight was hot coals crashed out from the firebox and set alight to the bitumen road ( just behind the fire station lol) the blue engine is the other one .i dont know if that one has been towed as the day was getting on and i had to leave. i hope you enjoy the pics taken by my mobile phone. sorry about that.
the last pic taken and posted earlier shows the hill they towed the engine up and they parked it up near the roller near the door.

the blue one has a winch on its wheel axle. ithink this is the one that was specially built for stump pulling.

the engine pictured being towed is going to be restored to full working order. the govt is donating $15,000 to the project and a new boiler has been ordered. i havent seen any paperwork to that effect but thats the buzz thats going around the shed.the secretary did say we ( the shed) are broke now and need to raise funds.normally i beleive the govt will match dollar for dollar on these type of projects but i really dont know. its good to be part of it.

Great pics Glenn, another classic piece saved. If they towed it up the hill from the private access road, I can understand why the Marshall's kept wanting a rest, I got puffed just walking up it,
Cheers
