TE1 boiler pipeworkTime to confess
I thought I had a reasonable working knowledge of the SEs and TEs - but NO
The blindingly obvious is the bit you overlook
On the boiler are two pipes connecting boiler to cylinder setup. One connects the boiler to the regulator - the other connects the boiler to the cylinder - hang on which is the exhaust?
The exhaust can't feed back into the boiler -oh heck it can't work that way!
OK then - what does that second pipe connect to?
Does it pass through the boiler and exit up the chimney? I'm not taking the front off just to look so answers please by those that know!

I'm assuming you mean the old models that don't have reverse but have a regulator.
If so the regulator is on the exhaust, it connects back into the boiler tube but not the boiler.
The tube is an inch or so longer than the boiler and opens up into the smoke box so the pipe with the regulator is the exhaust and is exhausting to the chimney even though it looks as though its going back into the chimney.
Did that make sense?

Just to make you feel better, your not the first to be confused by that, I was as have a number of other people.

Having taken the front off a TE1a I can see from the pic how the regulator/exhaust feeds into the void and not actually into the boiler!
Thanks Mm.
