TE1 gear standard modification kitHas anyone ever considered producing a standard gear modification or additional pulley to the TE1 to make it run slower but increase the power.
I think by reversing the flywheel and adding an intermediate pulley drive mounted on top of the fire box would be relatively easy to produce and install.
This would make the motion of the TE1 more realistic in speed and power ration.
I bet a few TE1 owners would be interested in something like this.

I added a dual pulley arangement to my A&P Lookalike. My original design was an extra shaft on top of the firebox but that looked ugly so I changed it to a double pulley mounted on the side.

The side mounted pulley would not be so suitable for a standard TE1 but the top mounted one would work.

There was a TE1a at STIA a few years back now which had a very similar modification to that which you're describing. The flywheel drove to an intermediate shaft beneath the boiler barrell, and a pulley on the other end drove the rear offside wheel. I didn't see it running however.

the SW1 has something like this. Later TE's have a hole in their firebox where the steam wagon reduction drive would be. I don't know how easy it would be to utilise.

Hi, there,
feel free to take a look at my version of the "hyperrive" invented by our friend Roger G. from Indiana ! His Roller was the inspiration. I pulled off the little thingie next to the flywheel and used a serious pulley instead ! Maybe you can take an even bigger one to gear dovn the Engine ! Take a look please:
This is the main idea:

There was a beutiful mamod based showmans engine on ebay a few months back that did just what you say, ie second shaft on the firebox. It used a further intermediate gear as well.
There was also a scratch built brass engine that did the same only last week.
It is clear that the fast-spinning oscillator needs a high gear ratio and the extra torque would be good for bumps and towing.
Keep up the research

That's just the oposite of what Michael is sugesting. An even bigger pully on the flywheel would gear up, not down.
