TE1a help please!

Would anyone be able to tell me if there are two different type of rear wheels for a TE1a?
Some seem to have a thicker hub than others...?

Also... Is it possible to directly replace a tablet burning tray with a meths tray? Do they both fit the same scuttle?

Many thanks in advance,

Chris.

Hello Garret, and welcome to the forum.

Yes you are quite right, there are different types of wheel for the TE1a. The large hub type you refer to came into use around 78.

There is also a third version of wheel that carried over from the TE1, and is found on the early TE1a's. This type had two rivets cast into the inside of the wheel rim, as opposed to three rivets of the later wheels.

Yes, the meths burner and solid fuel tray are completely interchangable.

Hi and welcome. as far as I am aware there are an early and late model but unsure of the changeover year. i'm sure a solid fuel burner will switch with a meths burner in this mobile

I can't add any more but I can say hi,
Hi, welcome to the forum.

Welcome Garrett...always nice to see new faces. Griffin has done a yeoman's job of answering your question about the wheels...so I will just extend a welcome for now...ask any questions you have about toy or model steam...someone on here will help you out.

cheers,
Roger

Hello Garret, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys - such knowledge! I'll know where to come in future for info!

Thanks also for the welcome, also to clear up any misunderstandings about the name...
It's Garratt as in Beyer-Garratt ( the railway engine) as opposed to Garrett (the road engine), i know lots about the first (having many of the former in 16mm scale), but not a lot about the later & road engines in general!

I'm just about to purchase a TE1a that i've been offered & add a few enhancements.

I had one from new as a youngster in 1975 & then got sidetracked into the railway thing - can normally hold my head above water with most Mamod railway locos though!

Thanks again for all the advice!

Thanks for that everyone - have just purchased a half decent TE1a from ebay.
Over the coming weeks it'll be adorned with a few extras...

Chris.

Oh yes...& it's a post 78 model!
