its possible your over filling the boiler
its also most likely that one of the exhaust pipes is blocked acting like a exhaust throttle and choking the engine (mine suffered this and I found it was the case simply by looking at a TE1 and thinking AHA!!!).
get some thin wire and run it down each of the 3 pipes (yep do the steam pipe as well it doesn't hurt to) to rod them through. They can get gunked sometimes. Then give the engine a damn good thrashing to blast whats left out the pipes.
The glorius thing with the TE1As is that they are terribly simple machines. There isn't much that can stop them.
I haven't seen you before here so welcome

thanks for the reply I thought that at first to but I always let it run stationary for a couple of minutes first before attaching the drive band so I knows its not that its not spluttering water or anything it just seems very weak

Also if you have just replaced the cylinder and piston it will need a few runs for it to bed in before you get full power.
Try running a whole boiler full with the engine just stationary to help run it in.
Make sure you run the engine in both directions too when you are running it in.

its not a brand new cylinder its just a working 1 from my mamod roller which I swapped round with no improvement so I replaced it back on the roller it is making enough steam as I always wait until the safety valve blows off and I have just tried cleaning the tubes with no effect it will just have to be a shelf queen thanks anyway

1 more thing about the engine is it has a tentensy to throw itself into gear and I just dont understand how it can do this I do believe in the supernatural but a ghost who likes model steam engines, if anyone does know why it does this please post it on here
Im seriously not making this up

that could be because the little peice of metal on the reversing lever has worn of
its like that on my sr1a and because of it the vibration from the engine would move the reversing lever
