The best deal you ever got. What do you think was your best deal you ever got on a toy steam engine?(or accessory) Mine was my cast flywheel Jensen 5, but what was your best deal you got?

Not an engine, but the $`9 Jensen 100 that I turned around and relisted and got $125 for was a great bargain I also overpaid for a lot of things that I either lost money on or just kept. I think it all averages out.

Yes, I remember that one, and how hard I kicked myself for not bidding a bit higher!
In my case, it would be a toss-up between my Hobbies SE2 from a junkshop for £25, or my Wormar Super C on a BIN for £20.

you're kidding me! I tell ya' luck must be something I just don't have, but then again, you have been doing this longer than I have. My best deal? Hardly a deal, mamod SE1a, complete, (not running mind you) $40. I WOULD have had a mamod SA1 for 20GBP If it wasn't for POSTAGE!

$40 is a great price for a SE1A

I guess, but compared to a 20 GBP wormar, it's a petty one! It's also too bad I lost the burner.

Never feel you paid too much only because someone else got a better bargain. Consider that I have seen many a SE1A go for $68 and probably half of them were missing a burner

Probably the £56 I paid for a pile of bits that turned out to be a complete Bowman M101, or the £30 BIN for my DEO, or the £48 I paid for then my unknown engine which turned out to be a Wilson.

Burnmafingers,
You do not bring up the rear. My best deal was the customized Roundhouse Lady Anne I acquired (with a RH Fowler tender) for the princely sum of $600. I had to fit new expansion links and eccentric rods, but it is a great runner and was even when I got it.

Best (so far) for me is a toss up between my Stuart BB for a bargain £80, or a cracking little SEL Major for £4 at the Great Dorset!

At Newark Antiques Fair about 10 years ago. It was around closing time on the final day and I haggled on a MM2 and got it for £7-50. Not in top condition but I felt I had haggled well and got a bit of a bargain!

After reading through these posts it seems-
It's not what you got - more of how you got it!

I would say your best deal was a completely free Jensen.
