The legend that is James Chantry

Here's one for our own James. I'm in a highly sentimental mood and slightly inebriated - enjoy it while it lasts guys:
Jimbo, you're legend. At an age where I really was only interested in one thing, you run the most succesful steam forum in history. I think you are playing a HUGE part in the revival of toy steam interest we've seen over the last few years - I personally think you should be knighted for that.

Arise, Sir Chantry! Sounds great!

...and a pleasure doing business with you mate.
Mamodman123

hear hear
Lewis

Hear Hear

and to think this place was set up as a joke ages ago when we still ahd the old mamod forums
James

Thanks Moosey!

When Steve Malins came over, pointed at me collection and said "who is responsible for this?!"... I shit my pants! LMAO!

thought he were the tax man or summat

Pleasure doing business with you too mate!

If you wanted you could have steamed the Bowman!

I fired the Jensen 75 up, and walked off and said "there you go, have a play with that!" LOL

That's ok, I'll try and give you some kind of illness and call it a cultural exchange!

How is your finger now after it's meeting with the Fleischmann's regulator?

I totally agree with Knighting James. This forum (I know I don't speak much but I read often) has single-handedly revived my interest in my steam engines. It was getting to be a rather lonely hobby as I know of no one else in my world that has even seen one before. Here I have a place to read about others great collections and restorations and just to generally chat good-naturedly about something that I otherwise would be enjoying all by my lonesome. Thanks James from a middle-aged steam geek.

thanks James for setting up this marvellous forum, its helped me out so often, and the guys on here are a great bunch!

heres to Steve Malins popping up soon!
Reid

We should all get drunk and weepy, wreck a Fiesta just for fun,
then shave Sir James' head sos he knows what its like for the sheep,
just to keep him humble.

Then a group hug, which would be enough to sober up everyone to say:
this is nuts!  What have we done?

Well, somebody can at least have his lady
knit a  pair of socks from pure Chantry wool.

Headstockings, 2P a pair
Contain No Lice. Possibly!

James

Thanks guys

I'm just pleased that the forum is helping others! At the end of the day, this is the people's forum, not mine!

It's never my forum, it's OUR forum!
Reid

It's a great place and you are a great guy.
That's the bottom line.

without the Forum thered be a Marklin donkey that could only go in one direction, a Falk (that I thought maybe a Doll) that kept loosing its flywheel, an MM2 whos flywheel was stuck in Mrs Attics soup, an all sorts of other tips that wouldnt have come my way- so thank you very much Lord Jimbo of Gainsborough

Jimmy finds trees a great relief in times of need for some relief.

Water and nitrogen.  The trees appreciate his prudence, his liquidity.
James

LMFAO!! Fly in the soup... yes. Flywheel in the soup... LMFAO!

As admin and the mods will agree with this cos they are the same, you're always in the firing line for abuse if owt buggers up or owt like that, so it's really refreshing to hear some positive comments

Makes the whole job worthwhile!
Cedge

Although I'm neither inebriated nor maudlin, I'll have to second Moose. I've watched an obscure and dying hobby shake off the shrouds and regain health over the past few years. While there have been several factors which have combined to make the resurrection possible, no one will deny that James' contribution, along with those of the members and admins of this board have certainly made a large impact on the health and well being of the toy steam hobby.

We older farts have worried for years that ours might be the last generation to enjoy these small mechanical jewels. Seeing so many young faces on the members roster of this board has given us hope that the hobby is now safe and secure for at least another generation. It is to those youthful souls that I'll raise my glass and say bless you for keeping the enthusiasm levels high and growing.  We at Jensen couldn't be any happier to see your shining faces...LOL

James... thanks for filling a void no one else has been able to successfully fill. You've somehow united us with your cheeky humor and irreverence as much as by your love of little steam engines.

Steve

Steve,

I could not have said it better myself.

Go James !

Reid

A hear hear for Steve too.  Well said indeed.
Wallace

Great thread this one, and well done to you James

This forum is a credit to you. You do a great job here mate, and a big thanks
Les

Yes well done James.
Manxman

And I'll add my thanks. I've known James a couple of years now and gosh, how he has grown. It seems difficult to imagine that one of the boys form the old Mamod forum, who was being told off for using rude words, on the open boards, has grown up so well.

The forum is a credit to you James. But also to other younger members like Lewis and MTA and MM, who have been around since the beginning and have all stayed and grown with us. I'd guess at least a quarter of the attendance at STIA were people from one of the main 3 forums and by far the largest group was us.

Cedge is right, that for a time, it seemed difficult to work out where our hobby was going. If he could have seen how many younger people were at STIA, I think he would have been pleased. I think by 2009 STIA we will be asking for an electric surply to all forum tables, so that people can show off their Jensens along with other models.

Agree with all that Manx, well said, just wish Id been around on the old forum, must have been a laugh, but James using rude words???- never

The other thing that was great were all the kids- 5 to 10 year olds who watched the engines with fascination, just hope they remember and join in years to come

Prey that the electric is a little less delicate next year cos poor H2Ovapours D32 kept tripping it, and I thought id bust it for good with my kettle at the start
Brandt

I will join in as well giving james a pat on the back for all his work and setting up the forum.

It was finding this group of people that has help and inspired me to fix up my first little mamod and to have a go at fixing up my uncle old renown engine.

It is also great to see that there are people of james ages that are so intrested in this hobby, that they would go to the trouble and effort ( as well as all the other people that work on the forum) to start up and keep the forum going.

Bryce.
James

bloody hell guys, thanks alot!

Steve... I tried me best to get the Jensen name out.... I fired up the 75, then walked off and told people to have a play with it
johnreid

Sir James has done quite well for the hobby. Keep up the good work.
Cedge

James
I can think of no better way to share them than to allow the crowd a bit of hands on time. I'm just excited that the little engines made it into the show. PM with any feedback you might have heard. Ya done good, kid.... LOL

Steve
James

Everyone were on about how great it is, good value for money etc.

I was talking to Phil at Forest Classics, he said he ordered 8 a couple of months back and has one left. He's ordered another 6 now!!

He agreed with me that it is the best new toy steam engine on the market!
Reid

So,  what's old is new again.

To most kids in the USA too, a Jensen would seem like a new discovery.

Jensen and all the toy steam engines are like lights hidden under bushel baskets;

not that rank and file kids today can know what a bushel basket is or was, either!

---

It's all very good--dreams made real by the young steamers of this forum.
Stilldrillin

Heyup!
It looks like I`m last again, an everyone`s said what I`d av said, if I could av thought of it at` time!
