The postman delivered a Radiguet (now with video)
The Postman delivered something special today.
.....Something I thought I'D dipped out on....
....I didn't win the Auction....
.....but the auction winner didn't pay up....
....So I got a second chance...
It's a shame the auction winner ran the price up but.....
Here are the first photo's of the base. See if you can guess what it is
The outline in this photo might give you a clue
The holes in this photo are, at this stage, just a distraction.

Will no-one have a stab at what this item is?

This should give it away to somebody

A french cladded boiler steam engine is as close as I can guess
|

Well you're on the right track Wallace
How many French Manufacturers do you know of?
It probably won't help to know that the little plaque celebrates a Patent and medals won by an optician that was the successor of a company that specialised in optical scientific instruments. A field also shared by the manufacturer of this steam engine.

The only maker I know is Jean Comby (if I have spelt it right)
|

|
Jean Comby manufactured around the 1950's.
I believe this one was built around the late 1800's

I believe this is a Radiguet!
Very similar to another one I aquired earlier in the year.

Very nice.
A new site glass, safety valve weight and a wipe down and it will be good to go.

It's only since I got into steam that I've really come to appreciate French enginering, and I love it.

Thank's Les.
Because of the information on the plaque, just under the door to the fire box, I think that the engine drove iether a model of the item that J. Deneoux won a patent and 15 medals for, or a working model of some equipment used by an optician in his trade such as a lathe or lens grinding tool.
I am hoping that since the plaque lists - the company name, the feat of the patent and medals, the opticions name and position in the company and the company address - I may be able to find out a lot more about this particular engines history and possibly replace what else has been removed from the base. I may also learn a lot more about the Radiguet company.
I have even been able to try, unsuccesfuly, to use Google Earth to look at the front door of the company address. It should be a lot of fun just investigating what I can.
