Pauly, you've got me interested and I now have one in my ebay watch-list.
How much do you think is a good price for it?

Brilliant boat
You've inspired me to go run mine

Thanks everybody I gota say the first run is always the best cause the candle burns off anything left over inside the boat like paint and the smoke goes up the chemneys and looks fantastic.
I urge everybody to get 1 of these boats as they are cheap as chips and great fun to use.

did 1 really sink at STIA.
just in case anyone is curious because of the way the boat is designed what with all the air holes for the fire along the edge it sinks just like the real 1 with the front end rising out of the water and then going down.
I ment no disrespect.

Yes, it chugged around in the pool for a few minutes then it sank, much to the amusement of the onlookers!

someone must have drilled a hole in it or something to make it go down.

ive seen that done at the Ally Pally model engineering show a long long time ago. There was a big mock galleon battle and one had a bung in the bottom that pulled out on a servo!

I've noticed that you can now buy a kit version of the pop-pop Titanic - has anyone got one of these yet? how easy are they to construct?

Off Topic, but not Off Topic, an interesting Titanic read if nothing else.

Next time I complain about the Mail, I might need to read that Titanic story.

Yes. And really simple to put together. The boiler is already soldered in & only need to attach funnels with tabs & then crimp superstructure/deck to the hull. And then decorate it, of course
|
johnreid

Not the kit, but I think I am getting the very last one that Buzz has, he is going through a lot of extra effort to get me one. He does have a smaller one that he says is in fact better built, the "smaller" one is 13 inches long!
However I think I am getting the bigger one, he has the box and thinks he knows where one is to put in the box.

I dont know why it would need to be better built mine seems pretty strong and it survived the royal mail service so it could pretty much survive anything.
|
johnreid

I think the one that is no longer made is supposed to look a lot nicer, How long is your Titanic? He only gave me the length of the smaller one which is 13 inches, or 33 cm I believe.
|
pauly
|
I dont think so Iv seen pictures of the smaller one and it looks to modern, larger 1s about 15 inches long.

In looking for mine, he found three or four more, if you want one you better order now.

Very nice Pop- pop pauly
I have the victoria model off of buzz's site, but I bought it at the museum of natural science downtown in 2001. I guess my interest in steam goes back a little further than I thought!

just tried to use my titanic for the second time and all it will do is missfire and blow black crud out the back of it I dont know whats wrong with it but it wont work at all.

Pauly, did you fill the tubing through one side until it comes out the other just before putting in the water? A syringe works well for that, or turkey baster or rubber tube on a squeeze bottle. They are supposed to be pre-filled that way before starting...add the fire AFTER it is placed in the water.
|
pauly
|
yes I did infact I did several times just to be sure I just dont know whats wrong with it it might be the candle burner not being up to the job of moving such a large boat.
|
IndianaRog
|
I got good results with a mini meths burner of the design Steve S recently shared...it puts out a great flame for 20+ minutes...maybe not as long a run as a candle, but certainly hotter.
These Pop Pops seem to be somewhat finicky I am finding. I read where the boiler/tube assembly is actually cemented together with an epoxy like glue...NOT soldered as it might first appear. I wonder how long those seams last in response to the pop pop action which is the boiler flexing rapidly.

Where can you buy them from

Try Buzzs Boatyard http://www.buzzboats.com/poppop.htm
I notice that some have a coil of tubing to be the boiler and some boats had a chamber with a bimetallic lid that flexes as it is steamed. The Pop Pop boiler is available separately too, I see them on Ebay frequently. I assume though that if one had trouble fonding a replacement boiler, that a newer Pop Pop could be cannibalized for one.

Both Titanics, (for Andrew) and the Cruise Boat.
Should be fun. The Jacuzzi looks about the right size for these.

Wonder how long it takes Buzz to ship one out, I suspect that I should be getting mine soon.
