The ultimate model steam boatI have posted pictures of this boat in the past but it recently came home to me for a good clean and dust. Built between 1896-1901 by Mr A C Nobel, this boat is fired by wood and drives a twin cylinder engine. The boiler was designed to operate at 40 PSI. Inside the boat is a hand operated feed-pump. The boiler is fitted with a lever type safety vlave, sight glass and a fire grate, with three spare grates at the front. The condensor control and regurlator can be controlled from the deck, without having to remove the decking. the rudder is controlled from the bow via a linkage rod which runs inside the ship to the stern. The cabin has a working door and a well detailed table. Steam can also be diverted, via another control to the chimney. This is a very big and heavy boat as can be seen with me standing next to it
The steam boat which is now over 100 years old. It was last steamed in 1965
The boiler room with hand feed pump
The chimney and control valves behind
The decking removed just in front of the cabin to show the compact twin cylinder engine

What a lovely model boat and terrific pictures too!
I do like this one, interesting hull too, there's clearly a lot going on inside this one. The hull proportions almost look more tug like than steam launch, but it's still very elegant above the waterline. Should sail very well!

Will it be steamed anytime soon?

What a beauty.
It's a shame it's not steamed. It was made for that.

The boiler would need to much work to get into running condition, and a replacment boiler would not look right, although perhaps one day it might be seen steaming down the Thames once more . During the 1960's the boat was involved in an accident on the Thames which badly damaged it. One of my releatives bought the boat in pieces and slowly rebuilt it.

A beautiful boat. It sounds as if it has a great story to tell as well.

WOW! What a beautifully preserved piece of history!
Would be amazing if you could restore it to working condition, though the still photos are quite impressive enough!
Although I know you get more exposure here, it would be great if you could post this to the 'Steam Launches and Boats' topic. This rapidly growing section needs every enthusiastic member!

This is really a very nice steam yacht, I cannot find other words. Aside the beauty of the hull, the wonderful steam machinery, the wood workmanship, what is surprising me it is the age of the model and its state of conservation. I liked very much the exposed brass screws with most of screw slits perfectly in line, and the beautiful aged colour of the mahogany woods.
I wonder how much extra ballast there is inside. I have an Edwardian four feet bread and butter steam launch which is completely lined inside with a 1/2" thick lead plate!

That is one very interesting and fine looking boat. It looks to me like it was build in a sail boat hull. I have seen that hull design in some early sailboats.

What has happened to the boiler? If you're concerned about integrity, some people have 100 year old engines that are still steamed, like the old Bing, Doll, and Carrette engines.

It was mainly because it had not been steamed in over 40 years and the boiler was 100 years old that we did not trust it, although I to have steam engines which are 90-100 years old and still steam
however as of Tuesday evening this wonderful steam launch which has been sold. We did not have the space to store it safely . but it has been sold to a very good friend and it may sometime in the future appear in a museum. It is certainly a museum piece
