The White Cloud and Northen Railway

Due to circumstances, I am unable to present new material, but I did so want to participate this weekend so I thought that I might at least show what I have in the lines of the White Cloud and Northern Railway.
I am fairly new to the Railway side of the hobby and all rail items have been purchased since last years STWWW, so the photos and video have been seen before, they have not at a STWWW

I will start of with my Bowman 234, I purchased it at STIA 2009 and the Loco was in remarkably good shape. All it took was a filling of the burner and boiler and it ran, in fact it ran well. Mooseman helped me in choosing this Loco and I do thank him for his help. Moose knows his Bowmans.

I now cap off one of the wicks when I run it and it still runs almost too fast, Bowman made a great Locomotive and I am so very proud to have this one.

NExt, I purchased a Mamod SL3 in May, it required a bit of effort to get it running but I now know what to do to get one to perform well. This Loco was made in the 1980s and was unfired when I got it, the gaskets for the cylinders has dry rotted and thus the Loco wpoldnt run. I polished the Port Faces and replaced the cylinder gaskets and it is a great runner. There are no modifications to it aside from a three wick burner. I am so very grateful to Graham Jilly for the help he gave me both in advice and the burner.

Next I purchased a 'The New Mamod Train", I do believe this is the first one to make it to the Western Hemisphere. It did require the port faces to be polished, but aside from it has been a great performer since. It comes from the factory with a Gas Burner, Regulator, and Uprated Safety Valve, the boiler is Silver Soldered too, a lot of features to be included in the very reasonable new price. Although the stem does not go out the chimney, it has a great Chuff sound and LOTS of power. I thank my good friend Les for helping with the freight and forwarding on this.

My two Mamod Locos together

My latest Loco purchase is a DeWinton Idris, this Loco is a Homebuild and still needs a few minor things done before I can run it. I hope to get it going in the Spring once my eyes are healed. Richard, Kusuchi, was so very helpful in getting this one.

I enjoy that each of my Locos are mine due to the help of forum members, a great gathering of friends we have here.

Now, for the Rolling Stock
I have two Mamod RW2 Log Cars with the Styrofoam Logs

One Mamod RW4 Goods Van

One RW2 that has been fitted with real wood logs

Here is a photo of the two RW2 carts and the RW4

Recently I purchased a 2 Compartment Coach kit from IP engineering and with the aid of a bog magnifier I built and painted it

I tried to make the interior nicer too, mind me this was my fiorst attempt a building one of these

I do not have a current photo of the track layout that I built to run the Locos on, I have added side guards and have painted the layout table since I took this photo, I also have changed some of the track, ithe outer loop has 72 onch diameter curves and the inner loop now has 42 inch diameter curves, the Bowman will run on either loop but the wider radius seems to work best. I used Lionel track as it is inexpensive and easily obtained in the US.

Now for a video
This is to show both Mamod Locos running

Thank You for visiting the White Cloud and Northern Railway, the Rail division of the Water Closet of Steam

I again apologize for the reused photos but I have been experiencing major eye problems and have not been able to take new photos or Video. However the enthusiasm is still here and I guess that is what really counts.

That is a great little railway you have built in such a short space of time.
IndianaRog

John, the effort and the results are a tribute to you.  You have built up a nice fleet of rail pieces in just 9 months or so.

Bravo!
Steve_S

Excellent stuff John!
kusuchi

Great to see you made it here.

Excuse, the railroad is track  of Marklin the years 30°

The scale is (0)mm32 (1)mm45.
steamgranny

Beautiful photos that no one minds seeing again & great to see the Mamods running so well, despite the initial teething problems. I also love the name of your railway!
dampfmaschinenjoe 1967

hi john,
I like the railway you showed to us very much!
Cheers Joe
Sandman

Great to see you here John, and your participation is much appreciated.

The track is 32mm or O gauge, but is Lionel track, I do see the similarity in appearance to Marklin and Hornby track though.
As I stated the choice of track was strictly economical.

It is amazing how much fun it can be to see ones Steam engines pull something around the track.

Great to see you John

Beautiful  (0) 32 mm yes OK.

I do not know marks Lionel but I suppose that or much old one. Years 30° approximately.

Lionel has been around for many years, but the track I purchased was new. The three rail system is still in use for Lionel.

Nice Locomotives, John. I'm glad you got the older mamod sorted, it was bugging you for quite a while. Do you think someday you might build a ground level outdoor railway? It' looks like you have a lot of open space around your house, I've always wanted a garden railway, personally. Since I live in a building this will have to be a vicarious pleasure for me though.
RocDoc

Great locos you have there John.  I like the Idris project ... interesting.  Hope you don't mind me saying but the boiler does look a bit tall ... hope it doesn't topple over when taking the corners at high speed.

Is it? Well, you learn something new every day.
The name, the layout and the trains in this setting are fantastic, only one problem. You've got another loco no the way, you'll have to photograph that, too!

I am so excited too! IT will be my most prized one too.

I guess thqt after several who have not guessed as to how I came up with the name White Cloud and Northern for The Water Closet of Steams Railway
