This is just to say...

...hello! Just new on this forum I would like to introduce myself: Based in Konstanz, Lake Constance, south-western Germany, meanwhile, I have been collecting old German steam engines and steam toys (as far as my funds go...) for the last 25 years. Quite recently I have developed a liking for Bassett-Lowke live steam locos (though I was always proud of NOT being a model-railer...).
I have done some research on former GDR/DDR (East-Germany 1949-1989) steam engines with some rather astonishing results and I have been able to get together a quite substantial collection (plus information on the historical background of companies etc) in this field (however, I would like to underline the point that I am as a West-Berliner and West-German citizen, not the least nostalgic about the GDR...).
At the moment I try to get a lovely Doll two-cylinder running and I am desperately trying to revive a Maerklin Compound two-cylinder which was treated rather unfairly by previous owners...
Well, I look forward to getting some replies, notes and queries...
I mustn't forget to thank Odilon the Moose for making me realize there are some English steam engines as well
Cheers
Thomas

Hi Thomas.

It's great to see you here.

I haven't steamed the Marklin yet, but I'll post a video when I do.

Your expertise will be most welcome, and I know that you'll have many interesting discussions with Mirko, who is also an expert in German engines.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay with us, and be prepared for many questions from our members.

See you on the boards.

Sandy.

Hi Thomas,

Wonderful to see you here....careful, this place is very addictive!

For the record, Thomas is the one who identified my EPD engine when I'd lost all hope of ever knowing what it was and where it was from.
Les

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I have an unidentified engine that you may recognise.

Welcome aboard & I already have a question concerning the GDR brand 'Sachsenmeister. Not that I own one but know someone who does.   (Mirko has kindly supplied useful information otherwise I wouldn't even know it was a GDR brand! )

Welcome from Washington state, USA! I would be interested to see your collection as well. I too am a recent Bassett Lowke locomotive addict with a Great Western mogul and a desire to acquire another loco, hopefully an Enterprise.
