Time to attempt a website for Duncandumpertruck.

Well i think i ought to bite the bullet and get started on making a website. Having seen many of your guys with good ones can i be recommended the most user friendly/ free way to go? i.e. Which of there websites offers the best service.

Thanks!
Nick

I used freewebs for mine.

I don't know much about computers, but if you know how to post pictures on this forum, it is a very easy site to use.

I'm looking at freewebs right now Nick! Seems straightforward and i like the set up on your site.

Are you just going to be posting pictures of your collection like my site?

Or, are you going to give detailed information/history about each item?

I think it'll be mainly pictures but if i have any information i'll post it too! Currently at the "choose your package" section. The free option means there will be adverts but the $15 a year one is ad free. I never noticed any ads on yours...

I use freewebs but have gone for the $40 option to get rid of adverts and give me more pages and bandwidth, very easy to use site.

Also once you have it up and running don't forget to add it to the webring.

I too have gone the Freewebs route and love it.  If you start with the free version expect to need and want to upgrade for more space, the free one is pretty limited and full of ads as well.

I went the $40 a year route like Nick...NO ads and more space than I know what to do with...very happy with the intuitive nature of their site.  I am NOT a highly computer savvy person, but I have navigated their site well and if you can handle this forum you can certainly handle their site.

While Free seems good, the paid options are small change really in a hobby that costs as much as it does.

cheers,
Rog

I never noticed a $15 a year option, but the ads dont bother me all that much as I am on a tight budget and I can spend the money on a Steam Engine or Accessory.
Which ever route you end up choosing, Freewebs seems to me to be the best free choice out there, and the paid version is still a very economical option.

I've taken the $15 dollar option and will run with that for now. It'll take me some time to get round to sorting through my photos and arranging them properly. Will let you all have a look when i have made a good stab at it!

Good luck,

It’s a lot of fun putting all your engines on your site and very rewarding to see it finished. But be warned - it never stops!! You will need to put all those lovely new engines you get in the future on as well

Any progress on your site?

Of course John! It would be a pleasure! I will add yours if that's ok soon to mine. I haven't gotten round to the links page yet but when i do i'd like to add some of the other members sites. I'll ask first though.

That is coming on very well Ruairidh.

I'm glad to see you have got a Puffer, as no Scottish based model boat fleet would be right without one. Are you going to fit it with a steam engine?
