A good friend has given me a ticket! I dont think the flight is long, but it will be fun. I have flown in Military Aircraft, Commercial Aircraft and Private Aircraft, but I think this will be the oldest Plane that I will have ridden in. It even predates the PT-51 which almost made me lose my lunch once ( can you say Cuban Loop )
the plane
Yes MM, a FORD!
andysleigh
looks like it should be fun john.
i love old propeller planes, love the sound, not like those noisy things they call jets nowadays.
have fun
johnreid
The sound of three Rotary Engines should be music to my ears. Each passenger is guaranteed a window seat AND an Isle seat ( at the same time )
Nick
Do you know what you'll be flying over?
It should be fun!

Cincinnati Ohio, BTW I will drive right past the Pumping Station of Cincinnati Water Works, California, Ohio., I know there is a HUGE steam plant in there but no chance to investigate.
IndianaRog
John, that is just too cool...enjoy!
TRAPPERKEEPER
That sounds awesome John! I'm also going to be in Ohio on the 17-18 for a Steam show First one I've ever been too, and it looks nice Also first time in Ohio
Les
That looks like fun, enjoy yourself, you deserve to, and don't forget your camera.
steamyman
John- have a nice flight. just don't fly with these >
Have fun but dint do what I did, had a flight in a helicopter and ended up learning to fly one.
Sandman
I saw one of those planes in the Ford museum.
Until then I never knew Ford had made planes, especially a tri-motor.
Enjoy your trip mate.
Steve_S
That will be great fun!
alan2525
Sounds like it'll be a great experience! Make sure to get lots of photos too, both inside and outside the aircraft!
That's really flying, the vibration, the sounds and the smells, the harmonics of the three rotary engines all working alongside eachother!

Just got back, it was great and I will post some pictures later. Sadly the Airport is now set up where it is difficult to photograph the Airplanes. I did take a few though and so did a friend of mine, I will try to post some of his too if I am able.

Sounds great John.
Are they planning to take up the slack when American and United go bankrupt.?

have a great time John
I flew for the first time recently, on a 737-800. The first trip out was horrible. On landing my ears were in terrible pain and during the flight I could feel every single movement the plane made right in the pit of my stomach!
I enjoyed myself immensely though, and managed to survive Ryanair. They always try and sell you stuff, and I was humming "staying alive" while they did the safety talk, such was their flamboyance!
Kritika
NOW that looks brilliant fun John...
It certainly beats my many flight a month on the scourge of the world’s commercial carriers. Same food, same films, same duty free and "Not a Propeller in Sight"
BA and Virgin could do with a few of those me thinks.. at least I would enjoy their flights that way.
You have a brilliant day mate and don’t forget LOTS of PICTURES
johnreid
This Plane was Eastern Airlines very first airplane! ( The US Eastern went out of business, but is supposed to be resurrected )
I hope not to bore you all, this is a bit noisier and cramped than a 737
the Plane arrives
A Private Jet takes off in the background, two eras of flight.
the Flight and ground crews have a briefing before flight
Probably too many photos, but these are about all I have now, it is difficult to get a good view of the plane due to a fence that is to keep people off of the Airfield.

great pics !!!
johnreid
My friend took some video
Les
Great pictures John, how long were you in the air for??
IndianaRog
Love it John...that was grand...what a treat.
James
Wow John, you're very, very lucky!
johnreid
We were in the air for somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes, but that was enough to enjoy the plane and still feel that it had been a fun ride.
I think we varied between 600 feet and 1000 feet altitude, as my flying friends used to say, Low and Slow, the best way to fly.
Wallace
Wow, what great pics John. Very nice too look at
Would have been a great experience
Sandman
Oh yes John.
I'd have enjoyed that as well.
Looks great.
Atticman
Cant have too many pics John, thats great-
really like the wooden interior, Not like that these days.
I think they could fit at least twice as many people into the same space nowadays
- and they do
Kritika
Brilliant John...just brilliant, and a day you will nevere forget

Great plane. Reminds me of the first Indianna Jones movie.
Quite an experience.
igy569
What else can I say other than Far F*****g out!!!!
That is VERY cool!!!!
johnreid
I am thinking that Indiana Jones did the longer flight sequence with a twin engined Beechcraft, could be wrong, a more "modern" plane.

You could be right John, Planes are one of the very many things about which I know next to nothing.
CCairns
Absolutely superb John. Thanks for posting the photos & video of a real old time classic plane.
And it was Ford Tri-motor N9651 which featured in the first 10 mins of Indiana Jones - Temple of Doom. It is now owned by Kermit Weeks at the 'Fantasy of Flight' Collection in Polk City, Florida.
johnreid
I have been soing some reading, there were several aircraft in the various Indy Jones movies. I think a DC3 was featured someplace too.
