Toy Steam Rally, Rural Life Centre, Tilford. 22nd March 2008

This event is slightly earlier than usual next year. I will see if we can get a large space alloted to the forum and see how many of us can make it there. For a report of this years event see here:

http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/ftopic3216-0.php

Probably the biggest Toy Steam event in the South, and it is certainly well worth going to! Naturally those exhibiting for the forum will spread the word about us

So who is likely to be coming? You don't have to pre book by the way it is just a case of turning up and signing a book!
SillyBilly

If it'as during the easter holidays, then I may go, but I may have to work, not sure. I'll find out in the next couple of weeks. It realy is a great event. I went with a load of my family they realy liked it aswell.
Graham-Jilly

we will be in the uk at thet time but not sure where we will be tho.
I f were in the area we will pop in thats for sure
Boilertite

Andy and myself will certainly come along, we enjoyed it last time and the varied collection of 'exhibits' was well worth seeing.
Minor1PJG

Ooh,yes, my first Steam Exhibition Event - I'll be back.

The homemade cake in the cafe was probably worth the visit alone
Minor1PJG

Exactly - yum, yum
MTA

Is anyone else planning on exhibiting at the event? I may call up and reserve us a space so we are all next to each other, and to promote the forum of course
Minor1PJG

I'm still in
Les Marsh

I was at Tilford 2007 with some friends who are also into steam engines and accessories.
Here are some photo's of what we took.

and here are some photo's of some of the other exhibits.

I will be there again this year, just look for the tables full of toys. You cannot miss us.
tmuir

Nice photos, there is a few engines there I wouldn't mind.
Mamodman123

Very nice!

How many Bowman 101's do you need?
Les Marsh

Unfortunately only two belong to me, the other belongs to a friend. But we are trying to stop them becoming extinct.
Mamodman123

The tin plate accessory looks interesting (the light green one)

What is it?

If it is the one with the silver roof and a red band around the base, it is a Doll Well c1930.

If you have the book Steam Toys, A Symphony in Motion, it's on page 98.
MTA

Look forward to meeting you there Les I see you were with Mr. Crammond
Chris

Not far from me at all so I might pop along

Will you be bringing an engine? (fuel is free! and water is provided )
MTA

Almost forgot that this thread was in existence! This is mainly for Steve (Kritika). If you haven't been before:

You are free to turn up before or during the time the museum is open to the public. It is FREE entry to the museum per person per engine, and boiling water, meths and solid fuel (one packet only) is provided throughout the day.

On site there are plenty of local, historical buildings along with a 2ft gauge railway which is usually steam operated.

The Rural Life Centre is situated outside the village of Tilford, Near Farnham, Surrey. Here is the website: http://www.rurallife.plus.com/rlc/

I aim to contact the organisers of the Toy Steam Rally so I can reserve a fair few tables so that those forum members who wish to exhibit together can be all together

The organisers are the Burham Steam & Historic Machinery Club, and there website is here: http://www.bshmc.co.uk/

A raffle is also held, and tickets are £1 per ticket, and the prize has always been (over the three years I have been going) a TE1A donated directly from Mamod.

When you turn up, you have to fill in a couple of details such as your name, address and the amount of engines you have brought with you. This is mainly so that the BSHMC can see how many people came and how many engines were on display.

If you want to exhibit as part of the forum, please contact me by PM or on my mobile number: 07840 116816
MTA

PS, I need to know for definite how many are coming and what you are likely to bring so I know how many tables to reserve
Minor1PJG

I'll be there Simon.

I will bring a selection to complement your stock but I could probably fill a table as they were not that large as I remember
fcrammond

And there I was, thinking I was going a bit thin on top!

Thought I recognised  the the top of that head
steamman

I will be going again this year. I missed out last year due to work!!

I hope to bring my Wilesco d32 and pre-war collection to run, hope to see some of you there
MTA

It will be great to see you there Steamman If I remember there were two or three D32's at last years show
fcrammond

Now that's not the way to attract him. No-one wants to be in a queue of four El32s. I might even be tempted to bring mine were it not for the fact that I want to be near the boat pool and my extension lead is only 50 metres.
steamyjim

Fred, you have a D32

If you ever feel like donating it to someone-im your best freind
steamyjim

Can you post up some pics please?
MTA

Just sent an email to the BSHMC about us.

I have asked for 6 tables, out in the open (sorry Jim!) so we can be together

Will let you know more when/if I hear back from them.
Minor1PJG

Good work Simon

Let's hope the weather's good otherwise we'll all need to shelter under the roof of your Wilesco D141 Workshop

Or get wet.
MTA

That is one problem with Tilford.

Plenty of room in the open, not so much in the indoors

Although since I have been going to Tilford (this year will be my fourth) the worst weather was just some slight wind and overcast skies
Les Marsh

I find it is better outside. Less fumes.

Yep, and you don't often get to be out in the open at Toy Steam events

steamyjim

Balls!

Well unfortunatley i don't think i can come
MTA

Sorry to hear that Jim

There is always next year though Or even the Amberley do for that matter!
steamyjim

Aye i like the sound of the Amberly one!

You never know i might be able to come but not be with the forum
MTA

I have had no reply whatsoever from the BSHMC although just flicking through the current issue of Old Glory, it gives some alternative contact details. Watch this space!
Minor1PJG

We can't miss out on this one - my daughter can't wait to be an exhibitor
MamodFan

You just need to turn up with your exhibits, no contact or paper work is required
MTA

MamodFan wrote:

True, but trying to get us all together might be a bit of a problem.

Although I suspect whoever gets there earliest could get all the tables together.

I hope to be there for half 9...
Les Marsh

Just did a search of BSHMC and found this picture.

Minor1PJG

The weather forcast is a bit cool... rain and sleet

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2041
Nick

It will change by then.

Don't let the weather stop you.
Minor1PJG

We'll all be there that's for sure

A bit of sleet won't put me off.  My engines get wet when I run them anyway
Nick

Are you outside, in tents, or in a buiding?
MTA

ncseverson wrote:

You have the choice of being in some of the old buildings or being outside in the open, exposed to the elements.
Minor1PJG

If we get there early I guess we can make the choice based on the weather on the day.

What time does it open??

When will you be getting there Si?  Jordan & I will need our porridge before we leave home
Les Marsh

I will be outside, after all, it's only a bit of rain.

I am leaving my home at 0830, as it takes (roughly) an hour and a half to get to Tilford. I would suggest whoever gets there first out of myself, yourself and Steve to reserve 3 tables for us all

I have been to Tilford for four years running now, and the worst weather we have encountered was just overcast skies and a slight breeze. Then again you can't predict the weather 100% accurately

The museum opens at 10, so presumably that is when the show starts
Minor1PJG

Ok, I'll aim for 9:30 too
James

Eee look at you southerners worrying about a bit o' watter
Minor1PJG

It was the sleet rather than the rain I wanted to flag up

We'll be there either way.  Steaming takes priority over weather worries
James

Just wear a flat cap, drink Guinness, and be hard

Hence why I make a list and cross everything off when it is in the car, although I will leave anything behind that isn't on the list
