troubles with my 3 inch tube whistlehi all,
i try and blow it from the valve end. no air comes out of whistle.
what could be wrong btw- i opened the valve up and found a ball bearing & spring.

maybe the presure required to blow it is a lot higher than you can blow mate.

Sorry to hear it mate.
So you are blowing air through the threaded end, and there is no airflow?

Could be blocked with limescale?

Clinton...lime scale (calcium from the water) could be your problem, and a soak in vinegar should take care of that if so. If you have it apart, you might also try to pass a thin firm wire thru TOWARDS the threaded end...a little piece of solder or lime from your boiler could have lodged inside the whistle.
When you took it apart then reassembled...did you get the ball and spring in correctly??? I'm thinking the ball should face the threaded end with the spring providing pressure to hold the ball against an internal seat of sorts. Not exactly sure how such whistles work, but it would seem the ball and spring go one way or the other...2 tries should get it.
I doubt you can blow against it once assembled...that spring and ball if inserted right are probably stronger than your cheek muscles!

Rog, yeah everything seems to be ok, but the whistle handle is very loose. I'm taking it too a model engineer mate of mine soon, see if he can sort it. I'll get back to you see how it goes...
