Un-identified Steam Accessories.

I have the following accessories which I haven't been able to identify the makers yet.
I am wondering if anyone knows who made them??

1. Bremner Garrett Triphammers.

2. Bremner Garrett Circular Saw.

3. Hess Drophammers

4. Grinder

5. Waterwheel. Possible Bing.

6.Waterwheel

7.Bing Dredge 9956/142 c1906.

8. Waterwheel

I would say #3 drop hammers are Hess.

A member of the webring is a Hess collector.

Wallace

Thank you Tony, after looking closely I would say as well it is a Hess, all it is missing is the original wooden base.  Thumbs up!

1 down, 7 to go.
Les

I am still no nearer to solving these un-identified accessories except that I think item 1 & 2 were made by the same company as there are quite a few similarities between them.
James

I think 4) is a grinder not a saw!
Manxman

Is number7 a Bing 2 bucket Dredge. Dating to about 1906, cat number 9956 / 142. (it will need to be about 5 1/8 inches high).

Oh sorry, Bing also did a 6 inch high version cat number 9956 / 143

You spotted the deliberate mistake.

I have found those in the 1912 catalogue but the base is different.
It would be the 9956/142 if was the right one.

James

No but you can send it to me if you like

Nope, I've got pics of model with both a pressed foot type base and with this style of flat base. Maybe made like yours first 1906 catalogue and then changed style by the 1912 edition?

That would be good news, can you please post a picture, and then that would be another mystery solved.
Manxman

Here you go Les. Pic from the 1906 catalogue.

Manxman

Shit, sorry. On it's side but you get the idea.
Les

Thank you Manx, that proves it is a Bing 9956/142 c1906.
I have the 1909 catalogue and the 1912 which show the other type of base, so it is worth my while to get the 1906 one as well.

Two down, six to go.
Les

Now that the Dredge has been identified as a Bing, I suspect that the Waterwheel #5 could be Bing as well. The buckets, base and splash guards are all the same.

All I need to do is prove it.

Oh yes the 1906 Catalogue is quite different and well worth looking for on Amazon. I've also got the 1898 book that makes up the third volume of those books. Not quite as good as the other 2 but also worth getting if the right price.
Manxman

Now Les, I think I can also sort number 2 for you. Have a look at this little saw bench of mine. I think they are the same. What do you think.

I think you're right and I also think number 8 is Bing but the pics I've got are not 100% the same. I'll keep looking.

I would say that they are identical apart from the colours, and I think #1 is related to #2 as well.

So it could be a Bremner Garrett, or a very good copy of one.

I do have the 1898 catalogue as well, and as you say, it is a limited help.
Manxman

This is fun.  I agree 1 and 2 seem to be from the same maker. I've also got another one of these. I've got a drop hammer version. Do you want a pic of that?

I've got to do Tesco next but I'll be back later if you want pics of my other one of these.

It is fun, and a picture of the drophammer would be nice.

I have just come across #8 look-a-like in the 1930 catalogue.
It seems to be a cross between 10/2116 and 10/2117.

The size of #8 is 20.5 x 9 x 16.5cm.
Les

A picture of the 10/2116 and 10/2117
It would be nice if we could identify this one as I know that another forum member has just acquired one.

Manxman

Back form Tesco. Here's a pic of my other Bremner Garrett model. I think your no2 is the same (all be it in a different colours) and I agree, your no1 could well be from the same firm.

Les

Thanks for those, two very nice tools.
But I notice that the Saw bench is Bremner Garrett and the Drophammer is just Bremner. Did you find out anymore information about the company.
I agree that they are identical and I am going to take a leap of faith and say #1 & 2 are both Bremner Garrett until someone else can prove us wrong.
tmuir

Getting there slowly Les.
It's amazing to think these are nearly 100 years old yet we can still get catalogues of the parts (albeit repro catalogues)
kusuchi

So did you reach a conclusion on 8?

10/2116 or 10/2117.

Neither seem a perfect fit either in size or appearance to me.

Think we can definitely say Bing though.

No not yet, but we are still working on it.

It is closer to the 10/2116 in appearance but not size.

And I will agree that it does appear to be a Bing.

8. Waterwheel

8. Waterwheel

Mine arrived today.

Will post pics tomorrow.

Colors are different, haven't checked dimensions.  Are they base or overall?  Except for height obviously.

I measured the base and I realised that when I saw your one that I should have measured overall.
This means that mine is a Bing 10/2116 Waterwheel c1927 and that is another one I can add to my website.
