VI Wilesco Fairground Display

Our permanent Wilesco Fairground Display Board is now complete.

The display is made of cedar cabinet ply veneered with White Flecked Oak.  One coat sanding sealer, 3 sprayed finish coats.

Single brass railings by CJW Steam.

Ran it three times with the Jensen 25 last night.

Still playing with the pulley size and driveband tension to get everything running at the appropriate speed.

Will shoot video with the Wilesco Showman's Engine.

Sandman

What an outstanding piece of work.

That must be the best fairground layout I've seen.

Great to see. Looking forward ro the video.
johnreid

Wow that is impressive.
tmuir

Now that is good.
I like how you have them all at different heights too.
Will look forward to a video.
IndianaRog

Richard, I have to second what Sandy said...that is the best looking fairground layout I have ever seen!!  Love how you pre-planned the levels and sizes then framed in CJW railings...very tasteful.
duncandumpertruck

Bravo! The base is really nicely done! Looks great with all the accessories mounted. Can we assume that you'll be going with a more "distressed" looking base to mount your more vintage accessories on?
Nick

I've been waiting so long to see the finished display.

I am glad you took your time and did it right.

It turned out very nice and is definately something to be proud of.

I hope Andrew runs it often.
Les Marsh

Hi Richard,

The fairground is exceptionally well thought out, visually very attractive and not quite what I expected, not sure what I was expecting, but beautiful none the less.
   Thumbs up!
oldstuff

Wow!

That is so well done...incredibly impressive, Richard. Fantastic!
Wilescoman_123

Thanks Steamgranny and everyone else for all your extremely flattering comments.

This display, however, is the result of a collaborative effort in a Millwork shop. I, alone, cannot accept the praises which are the product of the efforts of a number of individuals.

Credits as follows:

Original Concept:  Andrew, inspired by Wilescoman's first video.

Incessant Nagging:  Andrew, inspired by repeat viewing of Wilescoman's first video.

Temporary Set Up and Video: Richard and Andrew.

Final Display Design:       Richard

Construction of plywood levels, veneer and finishing: Ron Schmieden and Maritza Santana.

Railing Layout: Richard & Ron.

Railing installation and final board assembly:   Ron

Fairground Mounting:  Richard & Andrew.

Many thanks to Ron and Maritza who undertook this project for Andrew in their spare time and refused any kind of reimbursement.

johnreid

Three Cheers for Ron and Maritza!

Ruairidh,

I honestly don't know at the moment.  This one was designed to be no more than a simple, contemporary, multi level display.

The vintage board will somehow have to reflect the age of the accessories.  I doubt it will be anything like this.

I bet if you ran it for them, it would make their day.
Manxman

I have to agree with everything said. That is something very special and I bet loads of fun to watch. Toy steam at its very best.
steamyman

Blimey, that's fantastic!!
Wallace

An absolute work of art.

I'm speechless.
Mamodman123

Wow...thats about the best Wilesco thing there is for sure!

couldn't be any better in my opinion!

Great stuff to all of those involved!
johnreid

You should email a photo to Wileso, I bet they would like to see it.

Forwarded it to Wilesco tonight.  Also e mailed the thread to CJW and was online when he browsed the thread.  Haven't heard anything from either yet.
Wilescoman_123

Iam really  impressed with that kusuchi means a lot  that i inspired you ,keep on steaming !!Have you had it running yet ! That set up would look good running of a D21 !
johnreid

I thought I would give Andrew a break and take up Incessant Nagging.

I still cant get over that, a real nice display, a piece of art.

Sadly, we do not own a Wilesco stationary.

Donations, however, would be gratefully accepted.

We've run it a few times to fine tune it with the Jensen 25, (no fumes)

When all is working well, it will be run with the Wilesco Showman's Engine which we thought would be the most colorful and authentic partner.
Nick

I was just looking at the pictures and noticed something on your angled lineshaft. It has Wilesco "printed"
onto it, instead of the sticker that falls off so easy. Is Wilesco going away from the sticker?

Don't know, but you're right and that is a recently purchased newer model.

Thanks Dave,

We've finished fine tuning it with the Jensen 25.  Tonight we ran it twice with the Wilesco Showman's Engine.

Video tomorrow,  (unless it snows).
markos

Wow. That's amazing. Fantastic layout.

That will provide both aspiration and inspiration
alan2525

A lovely piece of work! And can I add that the background to the photos is beautiful too!

What a fantastic view!!

Gave Ron and Maritza Andrew's log in information tonight.  I sent them the link to the thread and they were really impressed.

Maybe they'll post a response
Steve_S

I've only just caught up with this thread for some reason, but let me echo what the others have said... that's a stunning piece of work and something to be very proud of!

Had a brief but complimentary response from the CEO of Wilesco Export Division today.

He didn't make an offer for advertising rights on the pictures yet, though.

I guess he's playing hardball
johnreid

I bet it was a complimentary email though, If I was a Wilesco employee I would sure be proud to see that.
Kevin Klein

Excelent, the brass work really sets it off nicley.
