Mine was old fashioned, no DCC and no built in sound.
metalhead100

my first 2 were "old fashioned".......first one was around 1975  when i was a smaller kid......it had a 1/48 scale slot track oval in the center.

Second one was N scale.......old school block control.

Third one is this one.... I install my own DCC boards hardwired to convert dc locos to DCC,lighting, and smoke. (yes a few of em smoke....I like it)

Also do custom jobs....

I have 4 Green Canadian Hudsons from Mehano pre IHC (1 bashed ,1 getting bashed into freight service locos)

My wife wonders when i will finish the layout......Yea like they are ever finished....

Mine is long gone, but was a lot of fun,
Now I am concentrating on the Live Steam, but am noit going to try for any realism, just a track to run the trains on.
When I built my bigger HO layout, all if the DCC was so very expensive, I understand that if is much more affordable now.

It is cheap John.....my NCE cab was around $150 or so....I got it and 4 NCE decoders for under $200 USD

And decoders can be had for $15 or less....no sound...and you install.

Im very very happy with it...Its US made in New Jersey and works perfect.

Its a 1 amp system and is enough for my layout.

It improves your trains also there are MANY motor adjustments you can do to the dc that the decoder feeds the motor...freq adjust, pulse ect...

Plus no more blocks and isolated tracks! I can park a train anywhere and leave it "running" so to speak....sounds and lights....and still pull another train (or several) onto the same track, and have complete control of it.

Each train is directed by the cab NOT the track ...track volts are constant.

Anyhow......when ever i get this mess cleaned up John......you are invited to come run em if you wish....It can get complicated working the yard when 1 is running loose on the main...my cab only toggles between 2 locos ...so if you address a 3rd it bumps one from memory but the bumped one will still be doing what it was last told to do untill you re-enter it in the cab and bump another....

So its 2 at a time.(toggle back and forth between locos with a button)...with the system i have....but its enough.

I enjoyed that video alot~~~ thanks

Jim, you are an inspiration to all of us closet railroaders...I didn't even know DCC (direct cab control???) was even in existance.  I have got to get off my fanny and get my O gauge Sante Fe setup built.
johnreid

You need to Model the Monon Rog
IndianaRog

Nah John...if I ever get into the mood...it has to be the Lionel Sante Fe.  Cut my teeth on O gauge setup in the late '50's and early '60's...having a young grandson will be the inspiration to do it sooner or later, hopefully sooner.

I had the American Flier Santa Fe Warbonnet A-B-A which I sold on Ebay a few years back for $600! I still have not seen one go for that much since.
However I did attempt the Monon in HO, The Hoosier Line. My Grandfather was a Fireman on the Monon for some time, so the CI&L has a nice warm spot in my memories.
