i just had a look at my odds and sods. i cant help you but i did notice that the meth burner from my mm1 fits quite well.but ive seen these to fetch more than i paid for the complete mm1. i dont know but some of the dealers were selling small burners that fitted into a loco burner. another suggestion would be to squash in a vice or hit with a hammer a standard tablet burner tray or make one out of a bit of tin and wire. failing that i could make you one but postage costs may be problem to you.

Many thanks for the advice I managed to find a photograph of one on the net so at least I know what I'm aiming to construct now.
I found one for sale for £5.35 plus £2.00 postage so I may go for that as it looks well made ( unless I can find a cheaper one that is ).
Thanks again for the help !

If you are desperate to run the engine: take some aluminium foil fold it over a few times and turn up the edges to make a simple tablet tray.
It works just great and you chuck it away afterwards.
Also sometimes I line an existing tray with foil just to keep it looking nice and clean.

Thanks again. I may end up using the ally' foil as a temporary measure, and then buy a purpose made one I saw here :-

I know it is the wrong burner, but it might do in the short term considering it is a meths burner.

aye they in some cases are better because to get the fuel in an sp1 tray you have to break it up where as meths you just fill and away you go

Use the MM1 meths burner, it should fit in there as I don't think they changed much on the SP1 base

not they didnt the only difference is no meccano holes and the holder is slightely wider in the sp1 than in the mm1
