WANTED - Marine EngineHelloooo,
I've just bought a cheap wooden boat hull off ebay that's just begging to have a steamer in.
Does anyone have a working steam marine engine for sale for under 30 quid?
I was thinking of experimenting with a Mamod Minor and adding a shaft and prop to it, but...

Hi Pete and welcome to our forum.
Don't have a spare (or any) marine setups, but perhaps you will find one on here or of course there is eBay where they pop up almost weekly.
cheers,
Roger

I've looked on ebay, but I really have a low budget. I don't care about cosmetic damage, just that it works cus I can fix it up on cos., but not very good with steam workings! (mine always leaks! )

Depending how big your hull is, you could use a mamod minor 1 or 2, but I suspect a larger engine may be better. I'd try for a SE1a, get a rusty one, you could soon mount the engine vertically in the hull with a direct of gear drive to the propellor, and a little bit of plumbing with the pipework would see the job done. That said it would be easier to make a paddle steamer as you could keep the engine horizontal.

Your birthday today?
Well I'll be first to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY
It was dad's birthday yesterday. The bloke he works with said "Ahhh it don't matter, just swap the numbers around, and you will be younger!" Dad said "I'm 44 you idiot"

Aw shucks! Thanks for that!
If I swapped my age round, I`d still be older than your dad!
Anyway.....I think we`ve gone a very long way OFF TOPIC.
Sorry, MHLR.
Time to stop this thread.

Well, I don't mind -ness. I always start on off-topicness!
I don't mind Cornwall (to John), and I obviously love Yorkshire where my girlfriend is, but I actually like Somerset alot!!!?
I haven't got my boat just yet, but when I do, I'll see how heavy it is. If it's light enough, I may use my MM1. I would really like a vertical boiler with prop drive, but I haven't got enough savings (all going on the railway [MHLR - see my website]) to buy one. So I thought perhaps until I get that, the simplest/cheapest way would be to conect the MM1 to a paddle drive with a band and pulley! easy init! I could cut a girt big circle out, and glue strips on it. I don't know how to add pictures yet, so...
