Weird looking D24el....

Bought this recently, thought it was a D24, but it was different when I received it....

What is it?

Nick

Is it like the D28 Gil spotted on ebay?

Oh!
It is one of the very first D28 Wilesco's
Has the very old style pressure gauge
Good one!

It sure looks like it... a bit older but the same mopdel. It is a d28 then.

Those are fairly rare too, I bet it is worth more than you paid, real good find there.

Congratulations, it's nice to find you have something better than you thought .

Just ran it... wonderful! So smooth!  I swear that there is a BIG difference between the older and newer wilescos. The quality of the machining and the precision is greater in the older engines! No wobbly flywheels... so much better.
Now that the D32 is gone, this one will take its place in my generator demostrations.

Very nice.  The one thing that makes me wary of the big old Wilesco's are the electric heaters.  Anyone know how reliable they are?

I can't imagine that replacements can be had for anything but the modern ones..

... a wonderful D28!!!  Congrats, mate! They're even rarer than the D32 ...
Mark, I emailed Wilesco about repairs for D32 and D28 (I was toying with the idea of getting a wreck of either and restoring): Wilesco will NOT accept repair jobs on D32 and D28, since they are no longer in production and no spare parts are left. They also wrote that Wilesco will not take any responsilbilty should accidents occur with these old models.
Oh, well then.
Yet, if these older machines are still working now, after so many years, I presume they will keep working nicely for decades to come.

If you use a Variac and run it at like 90 Volts, I bet it would last nearly forever.
psantama

I agree, one does wonder how long they will last... but one can always scavange parts off a wreck found somewhere.

It was bought here in the USA, a miostake on my part as I had identified it as an older d24. When I opened the box, I noticed how much larger it was. Nice surprise.
