Wells CastingsWhilst franctically searching for the set of castings I have, a thought struck me. We have a foundryman at Amberley who casts pieces in Aluminium, and can undertake various projects for a small fee. If there is enough interest, I will go and see him and see how much producing castings for the Wells Stationary and mobile engines would be. If you'd like a set (or two, or three etc.!), say so now! More info:
http://www.amberleymuseum.co.uk/index2.html (go to resident craftspeople, then The Foundryman)
P.S. can someone send me GOOD drawings/scans/photocopies of the drawings please?

I would mind a set or two of both mobile and stationary castings.
When I get home tonight I will scan the casting drawings and post them up on the forum.
Book gives permisssion to freely copy drawings

Might do in later life Tmuir, I'm still looking! I get the distinct feeling I threw them out... But there is a box full of them in school, but if I have to get them from school, it'll be another week and a bit, as it's the easter holidays

I was speaking to the foundryman yesterday. He said he'd do it, but of course he needs drawings so he can figure out a quote for us. So if someone could scan them in and post them here, or send them via email or PM to me I'd be most grateful. Also, if anyone would like a set, please say so now. I'll probably be seeing him again over the 15-17 June

I'm still up for a full set of wells casting.
My mother in law just got back from Hong Kong today but isnt coming back over for a few months so if you dont mind could I hold off for a couple of months so they arent taking up space at my mother in laws in the UK for so long.
Thanks

How much will they cost though?

Don't know. He only does quotes when he gets drawings to work from. Once someone can do me a set of those, I shall get a quote. I believe he only charges for making the sand mould and the amount of molten aluminium used

If it is over £5 I don't want them

I think he also charges less for bulk orders, I might get a set myself. So if people want lower prices, they have to put in an order now!

I will be seeing the Foundryman tomorrow. If I don't receive drawings by 8:30 tomorrow morning, then I shan't bother getting castings from him.
I am getting a set, possibly in brass.
I still have James down for a set of wheels, and I have a set for Tony already.
The foundryman uses a much purer mix of Aluminium than modern day machinery use so they will be of much higher quality. He can also cast the pieces in Brass should anyone want them.

I didn't know ANYTHING about Wells engines but after following this thread and the 'Restorations' section I realise I've actually got a stationary I bought on ebay! Is it worth selling on? Anyone interested?

MTA is you need drawings for the parts PM me and when I get home I'll send you a copy.
Barry Wells stationaries are not highly valuable and it depends a lot on the quality of the build which was obviously dependant on the student that built it.
But saying that when ever one comes up on ebay they always sell and get anything from 20 to 40 pounds for.
Rolly owns one he bought off ebay and could probably give you a better idea of its worth.

Barry Wells, who's he? I think we are talking about his brother Kenneth.

I think I'll just take the set of castings I have to show him and see how much he is likely to charge. If he would like the drawings instead then you should be receiving a PM soon Tony So I'm only asking for my set and a set of wheels for James?
