It is build for an modellsteamboat that I did not finished

Isolated with asbest !!!!

Les

Both engine and boiler are sweet, and I like the oiler, makes it easier to get to the fiddly areas.
Sandman

I look forward to seeing it in action.

I will be making one of these when I get my lathe running.  I shall opt out initially of making the valve gear though.

good job, it looks the business!
duncandumpertruck

Looks like a good engine and boiler! What happened to the boat? SS Martha?

That is a very lovely model - I am particularly interested in the modifications, which look as though they are for oiling: is that correct? I am interested in how to get oil to all areas of my Score (the horizontal version of the D10), and should be interested in any tips (especially as regards oiling the big end bearings).

If you can drill the crank, James, and cross drill to reach the throw,
and have drip or ring oiling to the main bearings,
you have thereby an automatic, centrifugal oil pump
which will throw lots of oil to the big ends.

... hmmm ... asbestos as insulation? Shouldn't you be a tic weary of that material?

Reid, can you elaborate a little more? I'm not entirely clear on what "drip or ring oiling" is, where the "throw" is, or where one should be drilling, exactly. I know that at least the outer edges of the crankshaft are already hollow, but I don't think that that is continuous throughout.

I want to say first to Hawk, how inspiring it is to see such craftsmanship!

This is a beautiful engine and boiler.
High time to put it to work, sir!

James, let's have a new thread for Kinks.
Found a 1918 book online with many interesting ideas.
We can talk about lubrication options--I will also learn,
and see too that what I propose is more of an IC engine technique,
but would work for your engine quite surely.

Excellent, thank you
