what does your forum name mean? Some members forum names are self explanatory (MrMamod, Whistleman, OzSteamDemon ), some are real names, and some are not (belugawhaleman, The Denying Dutchman).
I chose logoman because it describes my job as a logo designer.
Care to explain yours?

|
angus
|
I'm rather fond of good beef at times but the cattle connection had nothing to do with the choice. It's one of my middle names. The other, as it happens, isn't Aberdeen
|
MrMamod

46u

Some years back I built a 1946U flat head 74 cubic inch Harley out of pieces. It was my daily rider and many times my only transportation for a couple of years. I use 46u on all most all the forums I go to and those I do not it still has the 46u in it. Like my user name for YouTube is Jeff46u.

Scorpion = well birth sign and I have been known to have a bite to my tongue but it was taken so just added 2
then on ebay it was taken (scorpion2) so just added NZ
so consequently all forums are now Scorpion2nz
and TradeMe is still Scorpion2 as can not change username there

|
IndianaRog
|
IndianaRog had it's origins in the fact I live in Indiana and my name is Rog...I also have a fondness for Indiana Jones movies, so it seemed a good fit !!!
I tried out for the part in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom but didn't quite make it. So I went my own way and:
"IndianaRog and the Temple of Steam" was born.

MooseMan

Mooseman......years ago I used to laugh like a drain every time the moose in the opening sequence of Northern Exposure came on....it sort of stuck, as a mate of mine decided to register a domain for me with the Mooseman name.
Otherwise....I'm tall, large, with long knobbly limbs and a huge head. I'm also quite bad tempered

Dean W
|
Dean W; Dean is my name. Last name begins with W, (for Williams).
It just seems polite to tell people your name when you have a
conversation with them, so I put my real name.
|
The Denying Dutchman
|
Before I became a member I did quite some reading and read about the forum effect and steam addiction etc. so I thought denying being an "addict" would be best.

mogogear
|
Mo- More
Go- to propel forward
GEAR- stuff needed to do said Going
The name I used for my now defunct Ultra light back packing gear company Mo-Go-Gear
Also "Mo" is Southern US dialect for my last name Moore( Greg Mo) , and the "nickname / place holder we used for our yet to be born daughter since we decided not to know what sex our child was till born-- the old fashioned way now adays--
So Mo eventually was born and christened Madeleine
and I worked the name into my little stove company
mo-go-gear.
go far - travel light.

Wallace
|
Mine is a nickname that I got in my late teens. The nickname came about an incident involving our local lake (Wallis Lake) where I ended up in the water fully clothed in the middle of winter.
Although spelt differently, Wallace stuck from my mates calling me that all the time. Many people who know me locally think it's my real name, that I was named after the lake
Ironically I joined this forum, or should say the old forum simply to find instructions on how to run an engine Expecting it to be like most other forums I chose my nickname rather than real name. In hindsight AndrewG would have been more appropriate. Too late to change now
|
shaygetz
|
Shaygetz is Yiddish and goes back to growing up Baptist in a Jewish neighborhood. It refers to Gentile males and literally means 'worm'. It can be used derogatorily or as a term of endearment, especially when among Jewish in-laws and friends. I figured that, by taking on the worst name that can be tossed at you by an enemy, there was little that could be directed at me online that could phase me.

Steamboat Willie
|
Forum NameHi!
I chose Steamboat Willie because my name is Bill (but I answer to a lot of other things - I am a married man with two kids (19,21). I have always liked model steam boats, and chose the name after the famous character in the 1927 Disney animation. I might add there is no physical resemblance...! (my ears are smaller, and pink...).
Steamboat Willie.
|
Falksteam

The name reflects the interest, which needs steam.

|
draconus
|
...the missus and my boy were into dragons at about the same time my wife took an interest in astronomy.
when I created an account with my ISP she decided she wanted to see the constellation (something you can't do down here). So that in mind we ended up setting up draconus (draconis had already been taken) as my userid for the ISP and we now use it for fora such as this.
BTW every time we nip over to HK we try and work it so the constellation can be seen. She still hasn't see all of it though as the HK weather never seems to go in our favour !

When I was an apprentice fitter, I used to ask a lot of questions.
One day, one of the other fitters looked at me and asked " You ask too many questions- what are you, a Fruitfly inspector or something."
The name stuck, and has done for over 20 years.

I am also slightly nuts as well.

benchmark

I live in Denmark and primarily steam on a Bench in my shed
Not really, the true story is that i used to be very active in nerdy computer circles with overclocking, CPU /GPU water-cooling and stuff. Benchmarking were the tests we used to test and rank your PC or its components. The name stuck.

MI Steam

MI is the abbreviation for Michigan the state I live in and Steam for what I enjoy.
|
yussufhippo
|
During my student days I sported a rather long beard, plus my curly, dark brown hair somehow got me the name "Yussuf" (has something to do with Cat Stevens changing his name in those days? No idea...; when the name stuck and was used by my friends I was actually congratulated on my "accent-free"German, sigh... on a party...).
Later I used a small, funny looking sketch of a hippo as a logo for worksheets etc I designed for my students...
When I tried to register on ebay yussuf was not available, nor was hippo...
Now guess...
|
Camst648

|
SKIPRAT
|
I will tell you a little bit about how I got the Nickname SKIPRAT but first here is a little something about its general origin.
Why SKIPRAT? Simply because most of the materials used in my engineering adventures have had a previous life. Some of the metals and other materials used in my creations are from articles that have out lived their usefulness and destined for the Dump a person that collects and uses stuff from a skip is classed as a SKIPRAT Oh well, if the hat fits....
At one engineering works where I was once employed I had this habit of looking through the scrap skips and if I found anything remotely useful, i was in and out of the skip faster than you can blink! One older workmate observed this this behaviour
and said was in and out of the skips like a Rat so the handle SKIPRAT was applied to me and the rest is history. For our friends across the pond it translates to DUMPSTER DIVER.
That took place about 40 years ago and to this day I just cannot pass a skip without looking to see what treasures are in it I guess I am incurable now.
