What is it?

This is something my dad and I built a couple of years ago. I know that many of you are very mechanical and I was wondering how many people it will take to figure this one out.

James

A compressor?
Andy

a compresor or a genartor

1st to respond... James

Nick

Well, it isn't a compressor. I am uploading a video of it running, but what does it do?
Nick

Here it is running, but what does it do?
steamyjim

Nut craker
Andy

can crusher
IndianaRog

I'm with Andy...the open topped cylinder and lagged on plate the piston pushes against would make it seem like a powered crusher that you CAREFULLY drop cans in from the top.  You guys must be mega recyclers!!!
James

I'm with Andy aswell!

Great thinking lad!
johnreid

Is that a VW cylinder? Can Crusher or some other device along those lines I would guess too.
Stilldrillin

I`ve got it!!!!

It`s a special SILENT can crusher, for use in libraries!
Reid

motor
worm pinion
worm gear
great power.

Meet the Press?

OK, now I peeked at the best guesses above.
Agreed: it's a mini recycler of old and broken down Hot Wheels

Andy, you can type quicker than me.

I like to think I refined the idea!
Andy

we can share the winning title Still Drillen
Reid

That is flat-out amazingly good engineering.

It could be a commercial product if only the brute parts weren't so spendy.

Kudos to you and your dad.  That is a winner!
Nick

Well this one was free to build. We found all the parts laying around. It took a couple of days to build though, ran into a few problems along the way. It was very heavy and clumsy to carry down our basement steps.
