Hello friends,

PW203 is definitely a model number used by Bowman-Luton for a specific engine.

But WHAT the PW stands for I don't know...maybe one of the others on here can help?

Bege...it is good to have you back posting here, we've missed you!

cheers,
Roger

You have managed to get one of the rarer metal badged models, most just have a decal on them.

If you scroll to the bottom of this page it will show all the Luton Bowman models. Your model is not made by the Bowman company but another company in Luton that just bought the rights of the Bowman name.

indeed, steamgranny has informed me factory of "Luton".
The models with "PW" were all there manufactured in Luton?

Yes all PW models were made in Luton. The company just bought the name Bowman as the original Bowman steam toys had gone out of business and that way a 'new' steam toy company managed to get itself 20 years of histtory simply by buying the Bowman name.
Luton Bowman also made boats.

Here is a thread showing my PW201

Nice win, Bégé. Had my eye on that one as it looks to be a very nice example!
Glad you got it, well done!
Bégé

now I am very impatient to receive it
MooseMan

Bégé, I have information on the PW203 on my website

http://www.freewebs.com/odilon/bowmansteamengines.htm#28011047

That paragraphs includes a link to a brochure and the operating instructions.
Bowman of Luton made 3 stationary engines: PW201, 202 and 203, and 3 boats.

You paid a very good price - that one would have been worth at least that, even without the Mamod. Congratulations - they are very well-made engines, you'll enjoy running it!

Now I wait to receive and I am very impatient
Chris

I was going to suggest you looked at moosemans website, but I see he got in there first

They are great engines, have fun!
Bégé

Hello,
And here is my cleaned Bowman, I prefer to leave the paintings of origin, the burner works in the perfection

an more pics here

Mister Occlusion

You put a lot of elbow grease into that; it looks great!

That's a very interesting burner...If I can just find a suitable reservoir, I'd like to try to build one of them.
Bégé

Yes Mister O.
I think is easy to make this burner,
for the tank it would be necessary to take sheet and to fold it and weld, pipes out of the copper,
I think most difficult maybe will be to find wicks
tmuir

I have the smaller model with a single tube burner of the same style and it works very well and burns cleanly.
Luton Bowmans are very nice engines and that's a lovely example Bégé.

The fact it is a metal badged one makes it quiet rare compared to the decal ones so keep it safe.
Bégé

yes tmuir, I am really very glad to have this PW203

I would like to know in which year it was manufactured ???

somebody knows it?
tmuir

The best I can do for you is between late 1945 and 1949. The company only manufactured steam toys for 4 years.
