Mamod loco?
Car paint isn't quite enough. There is some enamel in Wilko's for about 3 quid. Limited colours...
There are also a range called plasic-kote or similar. Which will do the job nicely. I used the yellow version of that on Rosa

Depends on what part of the loco.
On the boiler or other hot parts would only use a heat resistant paint, VHT break calliper paint is good, on the cab and panels any good quality enamel paint should be ok.

I used VHR black on Poppy's boiler and cab roof (only used it on the roof cos I couldn't be arsed to buy another tin of different black!)
And I used car paint on all the red.
