What's Up With That Oldstuff Guy?

I honestly didn't think I would ever put myself through this, but today's forum has been most lively and enjoyable, so what the hell, why not?

My name is Chuck Potts, I turned 50 this past Summer and it seems like it was just yesterday when reaching 29 gave me stress because the next one would be 30! I've done many different jobs over the years from selling automobiles to running my own resale store, which recently closed a little more than a month ago. It was necessary to close for several reasons, but it really boils down to two; it wasn't profitable enough and the needs of my aging Father.

At the moment, my job is him. He has, so far, survived a grim battle with cancer, has diabetes, and at 77, is becoming quite impaired mentally. His meals must be prepared, his pills sorted and administered, his blood-sugar levels monitored and insulin dosage measured, given, and recorded. Trips made to the pharmacy, grocers, etc.

But, in between these functions I get to enjoy my new friends here on the forum, and clean or steam an old steam engine. My partner from the resale store is a pretty woman but our ship has sailed and I pay attention to her as little as possible. My Dad adores her, however, so she often comes for dinner. And I will admit there are a few times a month when I pay attention to her a bit more.

I began collecting things a little less than ten years ago. I think it was old telephones to start, then old tube radios, old BB guns, I've even collected old toasters. Now, it is steam engines. This, as well as the three years at the resale shop, has found in me a hidden talent for fixing things that I never knew I had. Lawn mowers and snowblowers with their one-cylinder engines, 2-cycle and 4-cycle...they always captivated me but I never understood them until recently. I see humor in nearly every situation and love to bring a smile or a laugh, that is my truest aim and never intend to be cruel or to harm. Thank-you all for making me feel welcome here!

Hi Chuck. Thats quite a job you've taken on there. You must be a dedicated person.

I'm fifty eight but have been lucky enough to be able to take early retirement. I would recommend it to anyone. I too have recently taken up the hobby and really enjoy it.

On a lighter note I visit friends in Ontario Canada regularly. We're talking about visiting the Ford museum in your neck of the woods, the next time we're over, so we might just be able to share a beer sometime. I'd love that.

It's great to have you here Chuck.

Happy Steaming.

No. Not a martyr at all, I don't want this for myself...it just has to be done, I'm doing it.

I glad you liked that one sometimes I crack me up, too!
At 20 they were Goddesses, all they had to do was...be. But over 40 they need to work a bit more, and if they were spoiled at 20, it's a tall order over them. Vids n pics...I'll work on it a bit more. Could use help in getting audio into me movies. Not sure how to do it...thanks for the kind words, Mike!
