What to pay for a Fleischmann 122/4The title basically says it, and my birthday just passed and i have some extra cash to spend, here is the particular engine
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....4752&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
It's missing the original burner and chimney, so it might go cheaper than normal

Pluses and minuses first. I paid $200 for the one I have in my collection, I have sold two at $150 each but all were cmplete with chimney and in better shape. Two, that is NOT the burner to use, but I have a spare if you win the auction.
If I was wanting it, personally I would hope to get it for $75 in its current condition, I do not think I would pay over $100. BUT as I said I have sold several for $150 each so I know they bring that much.

$75-$80 is what I was thinking too. I wouldn't pay much more than that considering the shipping is $15, and it's missing some parts.

$15 is reasonable for shipping, probably costs them that much. PM me if you win

Although that is the wrong burner it will do the job for now until you get the right one, good luck to you.

Wow, i just saw John's web page with a Fleischmann 122/4 compared to the 120 and it's a pretty big engine , so i guess $15 shipping isn't that bad at all.
|
johnreid

LOL the 120 is tiny, the 122/4 is bigger than a Jensen 75, footprint wise. Probably similar sized as far as boiler and cylinder go though.

The 122/4 cylinder looks very similar to a Wilesco d-10 cylinder

Hi, it looks to me in this picture that someone cut a large hole on the firebox, and the seller failed to say this in the description, although the seller didn't know jack squat about steam engine, so he probably didn't know if it was factory or not, and it's my fault to for not looking carefully through all the pictures, anyway, do you guy know if the chimney stand is seperate from the firebox. here is the picture. it's the 4th picture down from the top

There is normally a door back there that opens and closes. I open mine quite often when I run mine as it seems to make it burn a bit hotter and not smell as bad. I think that Esbit stinks because the fire isnt as efficient and thus there is more uncombusted fumes so that probably will not affect operation that much.
PS the burner is on its way to you

Ok thanks, I feel a lot better I have a little bit of OCD, and i like my engine to be original as possible, unless it's for a conversion or custom addition. I think I might be able fabricate a door for it from some brass sheet, or something like that. Thanks again for the burner. I really appreciate it

The rear of mine with the door closed
One I used to have came with the door loose, this is what the door looks like

Thanks for the pics . It will be easier to make because there's no brick pattern on it.

You can see the burner in the top photo too.

I saw the burner Is that little valve near the sight glass for emptying the boiler?
|
johnreid
|
Yes, I use my siphon instead, but most feel that the valve is superior.
The 122/4 has nice features.

This is another picture showing the door at the rear of the firebox.

You can still get the original burner on German e-bay.

I bought a bunch of odd parts on Ebay once, I got Boilers Burners and miscellaneous parts. I think I used them all but that burner.
