I love that video above. And it's such a good looking vertical.

PS: I ordered today one of the Wilesco color combination wheels.
Perhaps it will arrive ahead of the Station500-ordered D455,
which is my first and only engine in adulthood; the childhood
Empire stationary and Mamod tractor are long gone.

Hey, thank you Reid, also for the nice comment on YouTube!
I love my D45....29 years and some 60 engines later I still get the same buzz from running it like I did on my tenth birthday. Lucky little boy or what!!

A badly brutalized Jensen black firebox model 25. You would not believe the long and interesting adventure that little engine started.... LOL

Wilesco D6 many years ago.
Wilesco D22 when I got back into it (thought I would be buying 1 engine, and that it should be a brute )
Also picked up an Old Smokey at the same time because it seemed cheap and I had, all those years ago, a tick for a mobile (though I figured it'd be a boat if anything).

The summer of 1972 or 1973 (we moved after that). Playing in the garden with a friend. We both had Mamod TE's and I remember all the tests we put our engines through. Trying to make them go up hill, making them go faster, how much could they pull etc etc. That Summer got me hooked.
I tried the same thing with my kids in about 1999 or 2000. They just didn't get it. Oh how times have changed.

I've still got mine.
It's a Gibson SG Firebrand.
I believe there were not many made.
I bought it new, way back, and would never part with it.

My first engine ... it was the Bowman Seahawk.
It belonged to my late father-in-law and I 'acquired' it almost a year ago to the day. It wasn't a gift or anything like that. In fact, I had my 'eye' on the boat for many years. I first noticed it many, many years ago (can't remember exactly when, may have been 5 or even 10 years ago). It was lodged at the back of a work bench in a tool room, and was all covered in grime, paint flakes and who knows what else. Every time we visited him over the years, at Easter, Christmas time etc I often went into the tool room to have another look ... actually, this is where he stored his beer and wine so there was a good reason to go there.
Then he died last year and my wife and her brothers and sisters started to clear out the house of old junk (horrible task). When it came to the tool room, I asked if I could have the boat, there were no objections and I took the Seahawk. I didn't know at the time how rare and valuable the Seahawk was ... in fact, I didn't even realise that it was a steam powered boat. To me it was a interesting boat with some funny looking metal bits on the inside. I also didn't realise what a beautiful toy it is ... and it was virtually 100% complete albiet very rusty and weather beaten in places. Sadly, there was no trace of the original box.
Time passed ... became good friends with Mooseman ... and the rest is history (and in the Restoration section).
Sometimes I think how lucky I was to notice the boat in the first place, how lucky it was to have remained there undisturbed for so long ... and how lucky that we acquired it. Any of the siblings could have claimed the boat ... or it could have been thrown out with the rest of the rubbish that day (this is where you all groan).
Only the other day my wife asked whether I 'knew' what I was looking at when I first mentioned about the boat. I said ... nope, didn't have a clue. It was just an interesting looking boat.

My first engine was an SEL Junior, I was given one as a Christmas present when I was ten years old, back in 1957. I remember that my father and Uncle steamed up in the sitting room on Christmas day. My Dad spilled some meths on the carpet and it caught fire! After that I was only allowed to play with it outside - which I though somewhat unfair!

I remember several Christmases when I was younger not getting to play with my toys on Christmas day as my dad and his brothers or my older cousins spent the day 'showing me how to use it.'

No, it was the smallest they made, a double acting oscillating engine.
The one I got was the Marine Plant.
I also got the Puffin Marine Plant,
and the best for last, their largest one they made and a slide valve engine, a Proteus Marine Plant.
All three are gas fired.
Unfortunately Cheddar Models have gone out of business, but all their range was taken over by Stuart Models.
