Welcome back H2O !!! Seems you have been busy at work getting promoted to bigger and better. Glad you could rejoin us.
If I had a secure desk where a cherished piece wouldn't get swiped, I would probably adorn my desk with a Mamod TE1...the quintessential English toy engine!!! This coming from a guy who collects Jensens!!!
cheers,
Roger

I've got the answer mate.
Screw the new engine to the desk.

i agree, the way to go is a TE/A, a great conversation piece. if you screw it to the desk it means you have to undo it for each office party, .
Cheers

Steam engines are a little messy, in an office environment.
I love my hot air engines for when I need a keyboard "fix".

Like StillDrillin, I'd get one of those hot air engines that run off of the heat of your hand. A bit expensive, but they look nice and executive

I agree. A Stirling engine is definitely the type for putting on a desk.

David,
Fascinating couple of hot air engines there. I have seen the coffee cup kind that operate on the heat differential between cup and ambient air...but I have never known anyone who had one.
Do they work as well as advertised???
Rog
ps...did I see a motorcycle model on your computer base?? Honda man myself!!!

Hello Rog!
After a few hrs running in, on coffee cups, the engine WILL operate on the heat of a hand.
Though it helps if your hand is warm & the room temp cool.
Motorcycles? Sadly, not these days, with the arthritis. BUT, many very happy memories!
Springtime, 1967. When I had hair etc.
Sorry for pic quality. Half frame slide 1967. On to print 1984. Scanned 2001.
I had a 1964 Honda CB72 in the 1980`s.
Selling my `69 Bonneville paid for my present stock of engines & machine shop.

David, you cut quite a robust figure atop your Honda. Funny, but I rode a small bike in high school...then 34 years later picked it up again...16,000 miles in 3 years now!!!
I understand hobbies and recreations that come and go...I once loved sailing and did it for years, but the hassle of rigging, launching and retrieving while 1 hour drive from home got to be more hassle than I cared for. RC planes, target shooting, steam and motorcycling touch the rest of my crazy uses for money. RC planes are all slung from the ceiling and it's been years since I flew them, but they helped launch my son into a REAL pilot career, so had a positive influence. I still enjoy shooting on occasion at my local club, motorcycling whenever weather permits and of course the greatest passion...toy steam collecting and restoration.
cheers,
Rog

Rog! Please clean your glasses.
That is NOT a Honda!
Mr H was (still?) putting engines into bicycles when the component parts of that machine were manufactured......In England!
I loved my 30yrs of target pistol shooting. But Tony Blair stopped it all in 1997.
Bitter?
Me?

David,
Humble apology...missed the Norton logo on your bike, got distracted by your mention of another bike which WAS a Honda. Sorry about your loss of the ability to "throw lead"...something I recognize as a right not to be taken lightly.
Now, back to steam!!!! Working on one right now
cheers,
Rog

Hi Gents!!
Thanks for the thoughts, I had already thought of the coffee cup hot air engine, but as did not know much about it and it's a little expensive I wasn't sure.
No problem with security, I have boxed unfired roller and engine from the sixties - and had not thought of that, but would not like to loose them- the difference in them to the modern stuff is really noticeable and I am really fond of them.
I have a little used 80's Traction engine and I guess that I will take that in - would be comfortable with that and as you say a great ice breaker and conversation piece and if it did go I would be annoyed but not lost an interesting item
Thanks chaps!!
