It goes ok and looks good, not that impressed with the wobbly flywheel or the fact it takes 12 minutes to get up steam.

12 minutes is indeed a long time...but i like this little runner.

I think it must be due some germa regulations that wilesco is not allowed to make a simple small meths burner for this engine.
Esbit on the other hand is too strong here.
So it had to be the candle, although it is not powerfull enough
Erwin45
I think it has nothing to do with power.
It's to small fot that...in my vision Wilesco made a nice little "toy" engine.
Just a fun thing.
Les
What if you were you raise the height of the candle so it is nearer the boiler?
classixs
Well... I for one is definately getting one of these, if for nothing else then to see if Wilesco has raised their demands to craftmanship since that miserable D3 where released
(...and yes i know some have been lucky, but personally know 3 people who purchased the D3 incl. myself and i even have had 2 and none of those 4 engines ran close to satisfying)

Hello
the flame is hottest at the tip so if you took the flame sourse closer to the boiler I would think you got a lower effect instead of higher. Kind of like the sun, it has a surface degree of about 6000Celsius but 10-20 000 km out in its outer sphere the temperature is sveral million degree celsius.
Erwin45
i'll give it a try
mrborinator
As you can very proud of, it is the first I'm see running,
and a pro vid. from it ...Thanks.
Rob.

Are they available for sale yet?
I have had 2 on order from a German supplier since the start of the year.
Is this an official Wilesco video?
If so it is a pretty poor effort, out of focus for most of the time and some pretty ordinary Muzak.
If some of us in the forum can get a hold of one we will soon be able to do a much better product review and answer the questions posted here.
Mr.Mamod_396
great little engine
Sandman
Great to see, although I'd be tempted to make a little round meths burner to speed steam up time.

The Bohm one comes to mind.

Great vid Erwin, thanks for showing it in action. I'm not really one for miniature engines, but I like this alot and will be buying one.
Thanks again

I got a message back from my regular supplier in Germany and he said supply is flaky at best.
I am not sure if Willesco are supplying their biggest orders first or it is just hit and miss.

i like ...very much!!!!! its a good job liz and i have a birthday coming up!!!.... wobbly flywheel???? i havent seen a mini engine that doesnt!!! if you tighten things up so it doesnt wobbly.....then its too tight to run..... it will make a great addition to our collection.... 50 pounds is a terific bargain!!! it takes about 12 hours to hand make something like this!!! plus materials.... yep i have to get one......even tho ive made similar.
Pineapple11
Great looking little engine, I'll have to pick one up some time

Pre heating the water would decrease the time it takes to build up steam. I am sorry to say many of my Wilesco s have wobbly fly wheels.
wobbly flywheel???? i havent seen a mini engine that doesnt!!!
Need to take a look a the Philcraft engines as they do not wobble and are much smaller then the D2! Many of the bigger Wilesco s I have even wobble from when they where new.
xlchainsaw
lets be fair guys. lets define "wobble" i define wobble as about 1 mm either side...and this can come from the crankshaft and not the flywheel but appear to wobble..... yep ive seen a rocker and a philcraft and the flywheels wobble.....these engines are well run in ...i cant say if they had a wobble when they were first got. but they wobble now....
IndianaRog
I kind of like that! Personally I would make up a little meths burner for it, but otherwise it's a great design nicely executed.

I know I m blind but I do not see a wobble in my Philcraft Jenny Wren.

Hello
I do not own any wilesco machines, but I have seen several and it do not seem to be build quality that is coming to mind, but afordability and design. I kind of like this D2, it is so small and flimsy it make less difference if the flyweel wobbles or not, it sort of become irelevant as this isnt a exactly a jewel peace. I do not know if i would pay much for it though when things like this : http://www.forest-classics.co.uk/mini_beam_engine.htm can be bought for marely pocket money. the weel wobbles on this too, but it is beside the point a little, same with the D2.

Wobble is when you can see the flywheel moving side to side. Simple. If the engine is built well, you won't
see that. That Wilesco is brand new, and it's bobbing side to side like nobodies business.
That Wilesco is really cute, but there is nothing unfair about saying the flywheel wobbles, because it does!
This engine is old. I built it over 15 years ago, and it has over 100 hours on it, both air and steam. No wobble:
This rocker has about 30 hours on it, both air and steam.
Built this one a few years ago. No wobble:
This engine is really tiny. I built it a couple years ago.
I don't care how small you make them, done right, no wobble:
This is one I built that ended up with Rog. I don't see any wobble in it, either:

agreed jeff there isnt a noticeable wobble at those rpms if it ran at 1500 to 2000 rpm???? the d2 isnt running all that fast i doubt that it would be working on anymore than 10 /15 psi . where by the jenny wren is working at 30/40 psi. the "jenny" is a special interest of mine. the one that tubal cain made ...not the philcraft one which has i beleive a bigger boiler.
this little engine was i one i made a couple of years ago....it has a 1/4 bsf thread ....i call it my "screw on engine"
did wilesco copy me???? i was inspired by rodgers "thimble engine" later dean did a run of thimble engines ..... the d2 will go nicely in my collection.
46u
The Jenny Wren takes 4ML of water. I have a video of my Jenny Wren going much slower but not up loaded to YouTube and it is still not wobbling. Like I said I have several bigger Wilesco I bought new that wobble. I still would like to have a D2 one day.
xlchainsaw
later i made a bigger version and put it on a micro boiler.
yes indeed a d2 will have many many steaming buddies in my collection.
I wouldn't go as far to saying they are pocket money engines Knut, not at £136. , however they are not bad value.

Wow lol. I am wondering, Can this engine be bought anywere ?
I think Jeff has you covered there, personally with the amount of money you are spending on a D32 i think you would be better off investing it in these engines. You won't be disappointed with any of Phil's creations.
Camst648
I am sorry I ment no offence, I should have thought more closely on how relative money and cost of things truly are. Just to fix any possible missunderstandings, I am not getting a D32 at this stage, I thought they was rare'r then actually is, and priced too high compared to many high quality engines. In a way the serch was mainly based on a missunderstanding from my side.
