Wilesco D409's new whistleH'llo, lads! Here are the pix of my Wilesco D409 with its new whistle. It's the chain-pull type, other than the standard turn-lever whistle, which is stupid and impossible to use when the little darling is huffing and puffig around the kitchen. I ordered and bought the whistle directly from Wilesco; order, payment and delivery worked like a charm. Good people, nice chuffers. The new whistle toot-toots nicely, and scared the wits out of my dog Xanto, who looked at me asking whether the f.. I knew what I was doing ...
The machine is operating on the pix, which do to the fast exposure is not to be seen. I hope you like the pix, anyway. Kind greetz, Tom

Dear James! No, you didn't make a wrong choice! Mamod's Showman ist superb, and the material and detail used on the wheels is - to my opinion - a lot better than Wilesco! My next buy wil be a Mamod Steam Roller ... I think it's just grand to compare the machines. Hah! You guys got me addicted - and it's just fine!
Kind greetz and why is boiling water so hot?

Thanky for the link! I'll stay glued to that one ... see how far it goes up. A new one costs around 170 Euros, without postage fees. I'm sorry I got my answering posts mixed up here - it's the weather!
I personally am fond of both companies. Wilesco has an old day, German quality ring to its name, like Märklin, Fleischmann or Bing. Wheras to me Mamod is English down-to-earth, solid craftsmanship. I want them all! Now!
All donations to me mother's son are gladly accepted ...

But thanks for the link!

Dear James! It's 65 Pounds "buy-it-now". That's pretty exactly 96 Euros. Plus the shipment to me - around 20 Euros, insured. A new one would cost around 170 Euros ...

Ahh but with this one you get all the aftersales service you could ever want, and you would also get an older one (which have very very superiour build qualities to the new ones)

H'llo, Jim! Aftersales service? But it's used and sold privately, what kind of aftersales service? Or did I misunderstand something (happens to me all the time! )? And don't forget: I'm here in Austria, so that even if the seller would grant me service, I'd have to send it to back Britain, which is pretty costly.
If I buy a new one from Germany, or even here in town (I think I know of a shop that has Mamods), I'd have a 2 year warranty. But of course I see that an older one is preferable to a new one. What are exactly the differences to Mamods nowadays and from yesteryear?
Thank'ee says, Tom

Hi, Steamyjim! The LEDs on mine don't work; I'm thinking of letting them be and instead putting an tiny bulb over the driver's space. How do you like the new whistle?

Well the price can be negotiated
I'd help with any problems you might have, if you got really stuck I'd pay the postage to get it back to me and then back to you again etc.
The new ones are very poorly built compared to the old ones sadly Dauntless bought a new showmans engine. When he got it through the post, all the boiler paint had solder splattered all over it.

Sir, I didn't realize that you' re the seller! I can be pretty dim at times ... Paying return postage should something go wrong is really something ... wow! Das ist Freundschaft, and you don't even know me!
I'll think about it ...
Thank you, says Tom

... try it, mate! I asked Wilesco why they don't put a decent spring/chain pull whistle on their machines. The turn-lever type are plain stupid for a mobile machine - to my personal taste, of course. Wilesco are on company holiday from 09. July to 25. July, their automatic answering gadget tells me.
