Wilesco locomotive

anyone built or got one? I'll never have one, too damned expensive, but it would be interesting to know.
James

I wish

The Lucas ain't it?
Mamodman123

No, but ive seen one on a leaflet....does that count?

It looks like one of those toy steam engines that are battery powered
SPOKESMAN

The loco is techinacally very detailed, but as the chaps say - expensive - something in the region of 3-400 pounds.
Chris

Very expensive from what I have seen on the web, and not pretty either. I go along with MM on what they look like.

Would sooner save up for a roundhouse.

Its very German looking in the sense of how it replicates real German loco building practice.
SillyBilly

Where can you get a photo of one?

I have a leafet with one on I can scan it. Have you tried Wilescos site, or any supplier sites?

Here's a scan from the Wilesco leaflet:
http://rolysphotos.fotopic.net/p39895514.html

I have a feeling it's not made by Wilesco. If I had one I'd paint it.

Click on the link below and it will take you to Wilesco's homepage.
http://www.wilesco.de/wilesco/us/index.html

Click on Products, then self build kits and there you will see a picture of the loco
tmuir

Or you could just look here.

SPOKESMAN

Thats the fella . . . impressive looking beast!
Mamodman123

It doesn't look too eye pleasing. I'd rather have a Lady Anne

So would I.
But to be fair Lady Anne costs twice as much.
I wouldn't buy one at the shop price but if I could get one for the same price as a second hand Mamod I would.

True! Although I'd rather have 3-4 mamod locos than that! It just looks wrong but I'm not sure why

So would I, but I wouldn't complain getting one of those either!!
tmuir

True SM.
I think I know what it is MM, its just too shiney and all those number plates on the side tanks are too distracting makes the engine look too busy.
Would of been better just have one for the engine number instead of 6 of them

Yes thats it! Also the pipes don't help! On a mamod loco they are hidden! The whole thing lacks the charm of the mamod/Mss locos!

It would be interesting to see one running/the sales figures for it
Chris

Would be interesting to put one together. But sorry, I really don't like the looks of it. It just isn't pleasing to the eye, mine at least.
MTA

A man today at Pulborough said he had one. Apparently there are pipes going everywhere and it's not a very good runner

There isn't much of a demand for a loco that doesn't work

Pipes do look nasty though where is the superheating?

I doubt Wilesco themselves would have designed it. Mamod had someone else to design it, although the man was working for them at the time.
steamyjim

for once i agree with MM wilesco is CRAP!

i hate its guts!

Calm down, count to ten, take some deep breaths.

Can't help but agree though.

It's like most of their other stuff! Too many bits flying off in all directions and zilch charm! It needs making more simple and toning down!
Chris

I don't mind the looks of some of the stationaries, but not their mobiles.

I think Wilesco are either you like them or you don't....I'm yet to see one that I'd like enough to buy!
steamyjim

steamyjim

ill forgive you for hating wilescos then

We know
Chris

Spokesman, lots of talking on the video, but it didn't get as far as it running! I was sat in anticipation. Is photobucket playing up or is that in another clip?

There was a mamod at Kempton with the cog arrangement like on the Wilesco. Would have been interesting to see it running.

Ill find the running vid . . half a mo . . . .
SPOKESMAN

There you go . . . .

enjoy

Chris

Nice one, thanks for sharing, I like that.
SPOKESMAN

My only vertical - runs sweet.

I sense bloodshed on the 7th Only joking, but perhaps if I were to let you loose on either my roller or locomobile I might be able to sway your mind a little
SPOKESMAN

I like em . . . either type.
MTA

I only have the one Wilesco stationary in my collection, the D141. I love it to bits, although according to my records I've only run it twice since Christmas

Run it again to remind yourself!
bessytractor

oh dear i seem to have forgotten about my own thread
The thing that really bothers me about the "Lucas" is its printed smokebox door. Compared to this the Mamod loco was positively well detailed. This is just....meh.
The first thing I'd do before assembly? Spray it black!

My Mamod loco will be going into unlined BR green very soon, simply by removing the printed patterns with Tecut and replacing them with a BR totem!

Ah, the D45....my first ever engine (tenth birthday present), and I still love it just as much as I did 28 years ago

There you go....just given my age away , old enough to know better but too young to care.

Can't say I'm all that taken with that Wilesco loco though....for that money I'd but myself a Mamod/MSS and do all the mods......sort of a "Rosa II".

I have promised myself a D32EL for my retirement...

I really must get a Wilesco, if my 00 layout wasn't being re-built I would!
