Wilesco-New ReleasesH'llo, friends! Pal of mine drew my attention to this: Wilesco has a few new releses this year - amongst a D10 with dynamo and lamp, a new Sterling engine. They never had anything like it, plus the r/c kits for the steam roller.

Those Stirling engines look decent!

Nice Stirling engine..i wonder if they produce it completely by themself?

You have to hand it to them...they are releasing new products and that Stirling sounds particularly good if it will power a dynamo/streetlight. I don't much like the looks of the Old Smoky "trunk" containing RC gear, but at least they have made the effort.

they do look nice though

... hmmmm. At least the drive gear and the base plate are definately Wilesco. Stamped metal like on the D10, base plate like from one of the accessories, the line shaft, perhaps. As for the cylinder - I've never seen that design before. And only needs a little tea-candle. That's pretty darn neat. I wonder what it will cost.

Depending on what the RRP is for the Stirling engines, I may just have to get one
I also like the look of 'The Striker'

They do look interesting, wonder what they will cost.

Hopefully they'll be "affordable"

... on second check, that looks just like the D10 (7,5cm) flywheel. The base seems to be the one they use for the D12. I like the idea of them using parts that have been around for centuries on their new Sterling.
Pretty cool!

shame they havn't brought any new design out aport from the stirlin

I hope so, as the majority of Stirling engines are out of our reach.
Take the beautiful 'Bohm' range of engines, they are all £100+ from Forest Classics. I do want one, but at those prices I suspect I would want to make one myself in all honesty...

Thats what I meant, hopefully these will be within range
For £100 you can buy real steam

... Stirling engines and "flame eaters" (vacuum engines) have - for me - a strange charm and fascination, almost equal to my luv for live steam. Right now, I have my Maiwald stirling right next to me, while I'm typing this. "Hisss-thump. Hisss-thump. Hisss-thump. Hisss-thump ..." Fascinating.
James Maiwald builds them upon order for very reasonable prices.

Yes, any steamer will also love hot air engines--their history is in parallel with that of steam.
The construction of that new Wilesco: using off their shelf parts where ever possible,
and outsourcing for the very high quality glass displacer and, best of all, I recognize that translucent plastic of the power piston:
pretty likely the same maintenance-free (no oil!) piston material that the Hog stirling uses to such good results.
If this is what I think it is, the pistons work in borosilicate glass sleeves,
incredibly good fits, almost no coefficient of expansion difference between the piston and cylinder bores (glass!)
the piston seals of this construction are superb, and of very low sliding friction,
thus we gain the most of the tiny power of the heat pump.
Amazingly, their engine will run their dynamo, and it appears that the power piston is substantially larger than that of the little Hog's;
if so: more torque! Good!
And the lack of a balance beam (Hog) means this puts piston power direct to the flywheel--another small power save.
The thing, for a cheap engine, appears to be well done.
It would be wonderful if the crank bearings were ball bearings, but that's not likely to be the case.
It won't be, if they are metal joints, perfectly wear-proof in the Wilesco joints, though the vital Stirling parts will be last-for-years quality.
Look too at the generous surface area for the cool end? It's huge!
That aids materially in preserving the power output;
stirlings run best when the temperature difference is greatest between the hot and the cold end.
This design ensures a cooler cold end.
Durability of this kind of stirling construction: I must have more than one hundred running hours on the Hog stirling and
it runs better, with more power and speed than when new.
That this new Wilesco runs from a cheap and safe and universally-available tea light offers another boon.
Mothers don't much like junior to be playing with liquid fuels.
Also: a tea light will burn for two or more hours. Long run times!
All in all it looks excellent! I hope they price it to sell in quantities.
There's nothing more appealing to the imagination than a tiny stirling lighting a lamp.
Good show. Where and when do we get the first one?

Nice to see that Wilesco are coming out with new stuff as well as Mamod.
Let's hope it's successful.
Come on Jensen you're lagging behind...

I already have the Striker and it is very realistic when connected to an engine.

The stirling just blew me away. The only things that don't look wilesco are the cylinders and the wood base.
Only 1 support too.
It'll be interesting to see what price point they come in at. Anyone think to contact Station500 to see if he knows anything yet?

Definately a big fan of the stirling with the dynamo! Just a candle for running that lamp?! I might keep a few of these about in case of powercuts

Wow a stirling engine.
If that is priced right that will be a big seller I am impressed.
