Wilson (now with video)I think that this is a Wilson Brothers vertical that I have just won
Does any one know if the remaining paint is the original colour scheme. This one is rusty enough for me to enjoy scraping it back and giving it a good lick of paint and polishing up the brass.

This is the photo from the Ebay listing. I think the seller did a great job of providing an information packed photo- something that is often lacking.

I think it's a Wilson, and I think Les said he was the underbidder.
Great to see someone on the forum got it!

Les

Yes it is a Wilson and yes I was the underbidder, well done though, as far as the colours go it could be original as I have seen these ones in varied colour schemes.

Sorry Les
After seeing some of your collection of late, I must admit, it does my heart good to know that my taste in engines occasionaly mirrors a steam collector of your caliber

No need to apologise, all is fair in love and e-bay and one day I will have one of that model, you will enjoy it, they love to run and my Wilson is probably my favourite engine.

Very nice engine. That'll clean up well.

Hello,
I was watching this engine too, but I did not bid!
Here are some pictures to show the original colour scheme of the engine. Hope it will help you to restore it...

Well done on that one,
The paint on the boiler is unusul stuff, mins smooth but scorched underneath, seems like some sort of laquer on top
this link will get you more pics of mine and Mooses, mine needs a piston/ cylinder and burner and was borrowing Mooses.

Theres even a vid done by Dauntless on that thread. The green base on mine is a bit lighter than in Jules ebay pics.

The Wilson has arrived, and what a great little engine
I was surprised at how small it is. It is covered in surface rust but I'll clean it up shortly. All I've done so far is free the engine up, fill the tiny boiler, fill the massive (by comparison) burner, oil and fire her up
There is no overflow plug, so I take the cap off the oiler to let the air out of the boiler while I pour the water in. This means that the tendency is to overfill the boiler. Copiouse amounts of water then escape through the safety valve and steam exhaust as it heats up. The previouse owner probbably did not dry off the engine after use and hence the rust
The seller packed the engine really well - but didn't empty the boiler properly
Here's some video of it running. It's no wonder that Les's Wilson is one of his favourite engines. It's a surprisingly good runner.

After watching your video's I definitely want one now.

Those Wilsons are cracking runners....I'm lucky enough two own both the verticals, and once they warm up (and boy do they get hot) they really shift!

That certainly runs sweet.
Wouldn't mind one of those.
