Windows XP home edition...having a problem with opening tabs

Hate to ask, but can anyone help me sort out an annoying problem I have somehow created.  It used to be I could jump out from the forum (or any program) following a link or video...then hit the reverse arrow in top left of screen and return from whence I came.

Yesterday I had to reload some software on my PC and somehow have deactivated this ability.  Now if I jump out at a link and then go to return...the arrow is NOT active and I end up closing the program.  This is a bummer when 54 new posts appear since last logon and I jump out after the first or second...only to effectly logout and then lose all those new posts.

There has got to be a simple setting I need to reset...but I can't find it.  HELP!!!

Thanks,
Rog

The tabs in Internet Exploder 7 you mean?

I don't use it myself and have only grudgingly been installing it at work because I like Firefox better.

Need some more info.  Software and version number would be favorite.

I never trust the automatic opening of links in new tabs thing myself.  Holding CTRL while clicking a link in IE7 pops it open in a new tab and holding SHIFT while clicking a link does same in Firefox.

For IE, if you do not have the menu bar, right click somewhere in the upper aear of the window and select Menu Bar.  From there, into Tools > Internet Options.  The TABS menu is at the bottom.

You can try the Restore Defaults selection and see if that gets you back to your preferred behaviour.

Doh...should have given that in the first place:

Internet Explorer (exploder) 7.0
version #:  7.0.5730.11

Thanks for any advice Mark.

cheers,
Roger
Mister Occlusion

i went back and edited my post assuming IE7

I really don't know much about it, but reseting it back to defaults should help.  And make sure no one else installed some toolbar or other add on that may have done something...

I will give your fix a try and advise later...thanks again,

Firefox is the Cats meow, do not delete IE though as there are times it is needed. For those times I have a Firefox extension installed called IETab it opens a tab in IE without having to leave Firefox.

Mark, you have healed me!!!  All is well now.

Dang this forum is like the corner grocery store that has a little bit of everything you need.

thanks again,
Rog
