would this work. 12volt heating elementive been thinking for some time now about taking a 12volt heating element from a travelling jug (auto) and putting it into a boiler. i thought to install it via the sight glass fitting on a boiler. it would fit and then a strong battery charger could be used or a 12volt car battery. just an idea at the moment .

I guess if it's made to boil water and you are 100% sure it will be safe electrically I don't see why it wouldn't work, as long as the boiler you are using is no bigger than the jug it came from.
I guess atleast if it does short out at 12 volts you could get a scald or burn but not electrocuted.
Don't think a standard battery charger would have enough power, you would have to build a dedicated power supply with a big heat sink.

I would be potentially dangerous, but a Car Battery would heat it up, lots of amperage there and potentially a big mess.

i guess its probaly a waste of time. as it is big surprises are in store as i finish off some steam related projects this week. im itching to post but liz wont let me till some bugs are ironed out. liz only wants me to post finished items that are in working order. to john and tony my secret model is a goer ! just deciding what colour to paint and some finishing detail.

u will probs find that a travel kettle is not intended 4 prolonged use- probs no more than 5 mins 2 make a cuppa so could get messy if run 4 2 long lol

a very valid point and no i hadnt thought of that. i think this idea is headed for the scrap bin.
