X Series - Meccano with a difference. For a short while in the 1930s Meccano did a couple of X sets 1 & 2 to compete with Trix. It is not that common to see models made in it so I decided to do one for the xmas competition - http://www.nzmeccano.com/image-39792
Hopefully next year I can acquire one of the clockwork motors which were sold to go with this stuff as a friend says he has one which he is prepared to part with.

Now what you really need is an X series steam engine

That would make an interesting project for Stan - he was wondering what to do when he gets all the other stuff done for me.

Don't bother Stan, just bring one of your 1929 engines over here and I will drill a few more holes in it
Ralph.

That is so kind of you to offer - not.
If it's all the same I may just pass on it for the moment at least.
And if you ever take up the offer of staying at ours I'll have to remember and hide all the engines well away.

Do you mean one of these motors

That looks like an X series motor - send it over here and I will drill a few more hole in it if you like

I think I do indeed - if you don't have need of it then let's talk. I can offer it a home where Ralph won't be allowed to drill holes in it.

The differences between normal Meccano and X series is a bit more subtle than just holes - perhaps I'd better get in touch with Sue and tell her to take the drill away from you

I think you can shove the drill where the sun don't shine
as this motor is fine as it is

What is it worth ????

I honestly don't know - as a magic motor they are common - but in those colours to go with the x-sets I'm not sure.

Tony, I hve one here I can sell you, just have to wait for the paint to dry...

Ok - so Sue did as I asked and took the drills away and has left you the paintbrush hasn't she.
I'm guessing this was a normal magic motor until recently - yes?

No it's a genuine X-series motor dated 1978...
How many holes would you like in it?

And it is now sitting here having arrived this morning.
And NO Ralph, if you see it at an exhibition it does not need any more holes drilling in it!

Come on Tony, Meccano is full of holes! Just a little extra hole won't do no harm.

Have now acquired a second X-Series motor. I wouldn't usually bother but I thought this gave me chance to have a decoy and run the model with one while Ralph was otherwise occupied drilling holes in the other
