You know what?at STIA someone should set up a booth where people can come with their TE's and race them! that would be fun!

They were going to race cars made from MEC1s and Meccano. Not sure if they did though.

Never had the chance in the end, we were all too busy.

I agreed with myself that it was a close run thing but my MEC1 car had won in the end

There's no room inside. There is some room outside but not much and the weather's unpredictable (snow last year).

Now there's an idea. Has anyone got a steam snow plough?

Regarding the forum table at STIA - any chance of laying out a large oval of Mamod track around the various members exhibits? It would look great to have a couple of locos meandering around in between all the stationary engines, workshops and mobiles!

Picked up a broken remote controlled truck at a thrift store for a $2.00, got four wheels, axles fit Mecanno perfectly, bit of snow no problem.

Not a bad idea.
Did anything come of the idea of slot control for TEs?

Not a race really , but to emulate the "tractor pulls" , you could have a slot with weights to pull and see who's TE is the strongest ...Wouldn't take up so much room

Is there really that much difference between mamods?
Or are we talking mamod vs wilescos and all others?

shame theres no enough room to race TEs on the floor.
but its best to stick with what works, models on tables and steamboats in the pool is a great
also thsi time I intend to tak ea mates rolling road so I can run my trains on my table

If you where to race t.e.'s the Mamod valved engine would win hands down, no doubt about it! They are extreamly fast and powerfull, would'nt want to open one up full throttle for too long though., might fly appart at some point.

I don't think so, I suggested it in the hope that someone else would pick the idea up and run with it as I did not have time to build it. It would have been a sort of large scalextric track for TE's, SW's, limosines etc.

TE racing, at least against the clock is a great idea. They are all different because of production and wear (as in run-in) differences.
I am seriously considering a tethered tight circle device to show off my mobiles, maybe four or five feet in diameter. Alternatively I have a 600mm disk of ply that needs a use...
Every few years Fred asks for ideas and I suggest more space for mobiles. He then sends a long E-mail explaining why I was dumb to suggest it. In short there is very little space so small ideas, like rolling roads are best.
I am also considering a "Bowmans challenge". I have learned, from the STIA informative booklets that Mr Bowman was very proud of the power of his engines and liked to lift large wieghts with them. A suitable meccano rig to lift some heavy wieghts and a board to post the results and we have a competition.

how about a rolling road with a distance counter to see who's can go the furthest!

Now there's an idea. Should be easy enough if somebody's got a counter from an old tape recorder or an old odometer from a car.
