today,on the way home from a short drive out with my wife we decided to have a look in an antique shop en route, quite pleased i did really as this is what was in the window.a bowmans loco, tender, two carraiges and a goods wagon all in a large wood box(couldnt tell if it was original),and loads of track, points etc.the whole lot is in average to good condition, now for the bad news,it is priced at £785!!!!!as locos are not my thing i am hoping somebody on here could tell me how far out this is.i feel sure however that i could negotiate quite a lump of the price.

a whole set is quite rare, as most engines etc were purchased seperately. Depending on condition, I'd say about £500 without pictures.

That sounds quite cheap for what you get, if you total all the items seperately.

Its a lot, but a set of so much Bowman stuff like that is going to fetch a high price. I'm sure many people would pay that much for it. I don't suppose you could get a photo of the shop window?

As MTA says go offer than 500 and if they want take it work your way up from there.
Which Bowman loco was it?
One of the big ones or just the 0-4-0?

If the box is original, it is rare. Points are uncommon unless they are 4ft radius then they are rare.
The rest are reasonably easy to obtain, but price depends very much on condition.

i will try to get on to the antique shop tomorrow and see what i can barter him down to,what upsets me about buying from an antique shop is knowing they have probably bought it for a "song" of some vunerable person.i think it is a 4-4-0 but will confirm this and report back, may get a photo so all on here can see.i probably wont buy it(unless i can knock him down a grat deal),but i will post details of the shop,i.e.location/phone number on here so that all on here can follow it up if interested.
