well marvin is completly pulled apart and new parts ordered from MD so hopefully they get here by friday and can start the rebuild

Well Ive just been the guineapig on Mamodevons website and tested out the buying it had a small glich but was sorted and now have the parts on the way great job Alan
Hope you dont mind me advertising it here mate you have done a top job on it

well an update the parts turned up today held up by customs who opened it for inspection then left a note say nothing was touched.
have put marvin back together and he has been running all evening on blocks just to run him in again and to test the new boiler. the new steal wheels are great. looking forward to tomorrow to see how he runs on the track.

Chris I noticed it got a bit of an air lock but seemed to settle after a bit of running.
I also liked how the steal wheel sets are held in place with nuts on the frame as the old whels used to scrape the frame occasionly so this should stop that happening

I've already got those wheels on my loco. Right bugger to fit but once on they are better in every way over the original wheels. They should also lower the CofG a bit so help stop derailing on corners.

Just remember to check the back to back measurement of those wheels, as I've had to re-punch both sets of my IP wheels to get identical measurements, although they are the first version of the wheels produced. And also remember that Spule4 suffered a failure of these wheels requiring them to be torque sealed back onto the axle.

Nope, I managed to derail my IP Jane recently. It is obviously better controlled at 45mm compared to 32mm.

Yes mine being set to 45mm really helps.
If I'm towing rolling stock fast my loco will derail but by itself its nearly impossible to derail.

I agree that fitting these steel replacement wheels will lower the C of G, but fitting a replacement boiler at the same time will probably cancel out that effect.
LGB track was I believe available in 4 sizes of curves, giving a 4ft diameter (R1), a 5ft diameter (R2), a 8ft diameter (R3) & a 16ft diameter (R5). Of course Mamod/MSS track is only available in one size giving a 5ft diameter.
I've read that the PPS Janet has extra weights attached to its side tanks, although we do not have any members who have owned up to having one of these locos yet, so cannot confirm that statement.
A heavily modified Mamod that I've yet to feature on this Forum has 2 strips of heavy metal attached underneath the side tanks like running plates, and certainly makes this more stable than a standard Mamod/MSS.
