I decided to give the SE3 a run before I stripped it down and repainted it. Went quite well for it's first run. I should have tightened the trunion bolt a bit more as it was a bit leaky, but did go well once it    started to build up steam.

4 wicks were a bit of an over-kill, might try it with less another time.

A couple of photo's of the engine in steam

If the engine was original i'd be reluctant to fire the bugger. The firebox paint pretty much burnt off when it was steamed. Saved me a bit of paint stripping anyway.

Now we await James to fire his SE4

Nothing like using a good heat resistant paint is there MM?

Atleast the paint didn't melt and catch on fire.

It bubbled, not the worst case, but not quite good enough

It's a fantastic engine. I have 2 out of the 1000 ever made

Rarer than the SE4, although a few have come up on ebay over the past year. IMO 200 quid is an excellent price for such a quality piece!

Very nice to see you are not worried about steaming it.
