|
I am flushed with excitement as I am getting some additions to the collection this and next month. I had a small windfall, plus I have been selling items right and left, the only steam item sold so far was my SR1A
Well they have started arriving
I got some Accessories that came with an engine
The Accessories
I know that several members have these same accessories and much to my surprise this set had some of the pieces stamped!
On the right I have marked the Logo with black to make it stand out better.
IF you know what it is let us know, it does say Made In Germany US Zone
and what did they arrive with?
Another Fleischmann 122/4
Sitka the Steam Cat is inspecting the packaging to make for sure there wasnt anything I forgot to unpack.
There are a few things with this engine that need my attention, but I think I will have it both cleaned up nice and proper, and in proper working order in the next day or so.
I really like these engines, but since I am buying several other things, I think I might have to sell it once I get it all sorted out. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it

I do not have any better photos, but the engine cleaned up real nicely, it required a bit of tinkering and now to use an expression so popular here, it runs like the clappers. I was wanting to sell it to help pay for upcoming purchases, but I am so impressed with how well it runs that I just might keep it, nothing wrong with having a matching pair is there?
What do you think? Keep it or sell it, two is nice.

John, I would have a hard time parting with that Fleischmann...it did clean up nicely and as you said...runs like the clappers. I vote to keep them as a matched pair!
As for your accessories, I wonder if that W on top of a W is in fact a the letter "B" turned in sync with a "W"...standing for Bing Werks?? One of the several names Gerbruder Bing used during the many years they made toy engines. Not sure, but I bet it is.
Nice to see you laying in a few pieces of late!

It is in the shape my other was this morning, using two parts from it, my other one would be very difficult to tell from fairly new. My first Fleischmann 122/4 now qualifies for MIB. This one sure qualifies for Very good condition. There were a few problems with this one, it had been disassembles at some time and not put back together right. Since I had one to look at, I quickly saw the problem. The eccentric was not put on properly and the valve was thus rendered non-functional. It was an easy fix.
The seller said it was missing the burner, but it was jambed up inside the Firebox. and it even had some spare gaskets which I decided to use instead of making some from Teflon. These are the leather like gaskets, they seem to be real good gaskets.
From all that I can tell the engine is a 1954 version like my other. That was a good year, as I am 1954 vintage too _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

Great additions. I don't think the tools can be Bing. Bing ceased to trade in 1932 and these pieces are dated somewhere between 1946 and and 1951. _________________ Manx, the mobile man |

Great buys John. Also good to see the tools have a marking on them.
I can't find my small Shire book steam toy accessories to see if the marking is in there. But will check it out.
As for the engine, that's a tough one If you need the money for future purchases I'd sell the MIB one as runners are always better to keep _________________

So, are you officially a Fleischmann collector yet?
Every now and then I take a kick at one of the larger ones on ebay, but they always go for about double what I'd like to pay _________________

Good looking engine, some nice tools to go with it and a hint at a makers mark. What more could you want.
Well done John on a very good purchase. _________________ Les - Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

The 122/4 is just a little bigger than a Jensen 25. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

More of the Fleischmann 122/4, I cleaned it up and made all of the repairs needed. Here it is in better photos
and showing the door from the back of the Firebox, I do believe it is repairable, and might attempt it myself, still unsure, but all of the pieces are there and really just a minor thing that is wrong as the latch has become disassembled but still complete.
And, the pair
There is a small amount of rust on two of the feet on the base of the one I just got, but I do not think it is bad enough to merit any paint touch up even, very minor for a 50+ year old engine. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

John, I have a warm spot for those Fleischmanns in that my first engine was a very similar model. The latest one really cleaned up nicely and they make a great pair side by side. _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |

Youve done a really good job on that John, as wallace suggested before, sell that one on , and keep the other for a runner.
Cheers

It is a hard decision, the one I just got is from about 1960 from what I can tell, paint color etc.
The problem is, my collection is small, and I do have the idea that Quality, not Quantity is my goal. I intend to run all of my engines, but care for them too.
I suspect that I should be able to get what I spent on this engine and keep the Accessories. However I still like the idea of having the pair.
I am of limited funds, but for a very short time I am able to get by without suffering so for now I think I am going to keep it and it will be one that can be moved when there is either a need for cash or if something that I want more comes along. I think this is as good as keeping the money in a passbook savings account.
I will take better pictures of the accessories the next day it isnt raining. and I do have some real nice additions to arrive within the next month, maybe even one tomorrow or Monday. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |
