I am having a few problems with PayPal
First, I click to send funds in GBP and it says I sent GBP but the recipient gets USD
Second, for some reason in some transactions I send to an email and PayPal is adding a - to the front of the email
For example I sent philgravett an email and PayPal sent it to -philgravett 4 days later it says that I sent mail to a non existant address
Now, I also had sent someone else a payment and the dash was added by PayPal, and this morning I get an refund from a person that has a hyphen at the beginning of his email for example I sent to JoeBlow but PayPal sent the payment to -JoeBlow and there actually was a -Joeblow! The person was honest and refunded my money.
On the payments where the payment became USD when sent as GBP, a hold is now on my account for that amount of money, ARRRGGGHHH
It should not get this complicated.
Lets hope these things are temporary _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

The USD thing happened to flywheel recently too.
So much for paypals logic that they should be exempt for the anti-competitive law in OZ because paypal is four times safer than any other form of online payment. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

NOw to add to the confusion, the amounts cancelled and refunded are now frozen on a temporary hold. The funds are not available till some thing like 4 or 5 days pass. this adds up to almost 200 Pounds! or should I say $389! Is PayPal drawing interest on these funds while I have no access to them? This is due to the added hyphen and the change from GBP to USD, both things I believe are PayPal issues.
If by chance you are playing things a little close and decide to splurge and buy something that is close tot he balance on your bank account, check your PayPal account frequently as something like this could have the potential of being disastrous.
Before this I have never had a problem with PayPal, and in fact I am fortunate as it really isnt a big problem at this time, but it sure could have been if circumstances were a little bit different. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

Yes, I bought this up on April 30th, and funnily enough you commented on it,
http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/about10683.html
What is happening, is allowing them to have up to three bites of the cherry,
1. The fee they usually charge.
2. The loss when they convert from GPB to US$ as thier exchange
is always less (2-3 cents per US$) than the going bank rate
3 And if you don't deal in US$, another loss when you change
US$ to your own currency as the Paypal system won't let you
trade/buy in two currencies on the one transaction, .
It's scurrulous, that's one of the reasons why we are so angry at the chages being introducted in regard to sellers only being able to offer Paypal as a payment method.
As for the witholding period, that's always been there, a couple of years ago I sent money to someone and the email address wasn't quite right, so Paypal witheld the money for 3-5 days. They say that is incase the recipient complains to their bank that the money has been withdrawn from thier account, and ofcourse they are making money on it
You have to either get the seller to wait until the money is cleared or take more money out of your account, if you have it.
Cheers

I have no objections to the holding period, if it wasnt their fault. I now have twice the money tied up in one transaction. And the Pounds to Dollars thing, I sent Pounds, the recipients received Dollars and again double the money is tied up.
For example I pay 10 pounds which is approx $19.31 but the recipient gets $10 not $10 pounds. They refund $10 to me and I send them 10 pounds again and they get pounds, however $38.62 has been withdrawn from my Bank Account, admittedly three to 5 days later $19.31 will show up in my PayPal account, but in the mean time I have lost use of $19.31 which was spent buying NOTHING.
THis time I have done several transactions and it is in fact over $300 that is tied up for 3 to 5 days, I am more than a little angry, and after the 3 to 5 days, for it to get back into my bank, there will be another 3 to 5 day wait. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |
