Everyone enjoys a steam rally or gathering, and for those of us who are lucky enough to have several events within easy distance throughout the summer they are eagerly awaited. The exhibitors at these events are proud engine owners who enjoy showing off their treasured machinery, and are always ready to chat about it. Well, that pretty much describes most of the members of this forum too, so lets have a steam event of our own!

This one will be different though. It will be an on-line internet steam rally, the worlds first worldwide steam event, and the hope is that as many as possible of our many members around the globe will take part.

The way it will work is that a date will be set, probably a whole weeked in October, and during those 48 hours members will be encouraged to post steam related, videos, pictures, text, in fact anything steam related. You might say "Isn't that what we do all the time anyway?" Well yes it is, but the idea is to make a special effort to create material for the event. Maybe videos of those engines that you rarely steam, maybe pictures and descriptions of your latest projects, maybe videos of your whole collection. Let your imagination run riot!

The great thing is that you can take part wherever you are, and you can log in at any time so it doesn't matter if the dates clash with something else you've got planned. So start thinking about the material you could post!

We also need your suggestions or ideas that could be incorporated into the event and in particular we need suggestions for a name for the event... maybe one that emphasises it's international nature, and also suggestions for the best weekend to set as the date. (Personally I'd suggest some time in October when other events are more or less over for the season.) I also think it would be good to have a logo for the event, so if you are artistic lets see your ideas.

We want this to be an event for everyone and your ideas and suggestions will be very welcome!

When Steve proposed this idea to the team, we all thought it was a great idea and well worth following through.

The prospect of a forum virtual STIA type weekend steam up and gathering would give the forum a unique chance to participate in the first global steam event of its kind.

The team thought that this was such a fine idea that I was assigned to assist Steve on the project and help in any way to promote it.

We invite comments on the idea and we will be firming out the details of the event in which the membership will be fully involved soon.

Sandman for the forum team.

I think it's an excellent idea.

Having just returned from a steaming afternoon with friends (at GMES) it strikes me that for those of us that are close enough to one another to get together, we might be able to have regional events too, all taking part under the one banner.

I'm in

Sounds like an interesting idea.  I think that it would be very good if people could set up webcams.  It would be interesting if people could see simultaneously around the world what is actually going on - each webcam would be like a different room in the exhibition. It might be good if people who live close to each other could get together and put on a mini show for the benifit of the webcams too - Not necessary but I think steaming is much more fum if you are not on your own!  Thing is for the benifit of those in different time zones, would it end up being a 24 hr steamathon?!!

I think that I would be happy for those in the midlands area to come to my place - might even set up a paddling pool for the boats - although I only have the one pop-pop at the moment!

No webcam here, but I could do a YouTube or something on that order.

Sounds like a great idea.

Anyone in my area can get together at my house.

We can do a web cam or podcast.

Any takers?

I've already got something saved for the event.
My single cylidner Bing in near mint condition I've yet to bring myself to risk the paint and fire it up so I think this would be an excelent time for me to do it.
Need to make a few more burners so I can have several of my OZ engines running at once too.

Maybe members could get lots of things fired up at the same time, this it what I did last year:  http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/ftopic3821-0-asc-0.php

I only had 7 engines in May last year,  now it's 28.

just a stupid vacant minded thaught of mine- but there must b a guinness world record avalable (great publisity 4 forum) here 4 the longest international 'E-steaming' ever- if we could set it up in shifts so that depending where people are in the world they do a bit on webcam - say an houre shift each depending on wich time zone u r in!

if we did this we would need 2 get ourselves a channel on You tube so we could make sure it is kept going from say midnight to midnight?

just an idea lol

Cheers
