No worries on the SE2, MM. You'll have it glittering in no time.

That MM2's a real beauty. Gazing at all it's dazzle distracted me from realizing it's an older one, too! I was comparing it age-wise with mine(a '75, I think). The differences are gratifying to pick up. Our bases are different. Mine has raised flanges that my wire-loop lamp rests upon but is open underneath. Yours is closed. It follows the pattern of cost-cutting that sometime after your model, Mamod went to the open pit to save money on metal. Guessing from the wood handled burner your's is from early 60's?

And that poor unwanted flat-base MM2! You know, MM...ol' buddy, I've got this poor unwanted Falk vertical...

Its from aroud the time they changed the firebox and the time they changed the meths burners. Basically from around the time the SE3 came into life (the new one). 58 I should think .

Well I never said it was unwanted but I do think think this is my favourite MM2

Brasso wadding and a cotton bud diped in brasso liquid, I lifted the supports slightly as they do move a bit .

Been working on the SE2 today. A full strip down and clean etc was definately needed. I shall leave the soldering to a later date when Ive got the time to do it .

The base was gone so luckily I had a spare in mint condition and what a difference that made! Thankyou Mamod for making it a nut and bolt construction!

All the brass cleaned up well with some brasso and a couple of arms .

Luckily the crud around the whistle hole was glue and not solder. It all few off after I straightened the boiler with a screwdriver!

The firebox and decal are near mint condition, strange considering the state of the base etc but i'll take it . Despite the state it was in I don't think its been used too much.

Here we go:

Before:

After:

Still needs some soldering etc and a whistle to find but when its finished it will be a very very very nice engine! I'm getting attached to it aswell! Which is common when you clean up a mamod! You don't want to get rid or sell
