You gotta be kidding me. This is tedious...I'm gonna need medication afterward. So, the steam and exhaust pipes just dangle as you clean...you don't remove them? Sure would speed the work if you could...

Remove the exhaust pipes out of the chimney base. gently bend the pipes up to make the steam pipe a little straighter. Unscrew the steam pipe and handle bit from the thread in the boiler and it will come off making cleaning a lot easier . Don't be scared to bend the pipes they have a lot of "give" in them

Lighting was a bit poor! I was happy it still ran after it had been all apart for cleaning.

Jeez Chuck. That's the quietest running SE3 ever.

Only kidding mate. Great job and well done.

A perfect pic to emphasise the difference in colour on the bases and the frames.

Quite a bit in some cases.

The earliest '57 version is the lightest (Bottom right), and the latest 78 G&G is the darkest (Bottom left)

Jeez! How did you know?? Should be shinier? Yes, I left that alone for the most part, really just wiped it off with a wet rag. I was quite timid with the whole crank assembly, and didn't want to remove it. As a result the cast crank ends are a bit dull, too. Good eye, tmuir!

To be honest today is the first time I've polished any Mazak parts.
All my other engines I have only cleaned it with soapy water, wasn't till I saw a post from Mamodman a few days ago I realised you could get a shine on Mazak.

You can get mazak like a mirror guys! you just have to stick at it.

I have known a few to have corrosion problems and slight surface cracking, but it's removable with wet and dry paper

You really have to go to town on them
