I've finished restoring my Sr1 with the exception of the coal scuttle that is going to be stripped down and repainted.
Would of liked to repaint the boiler but as I had to solder in the whistle I could not remove boiler from firebox so decided not to repaint boiler.

Here are the before pictures.

Here are the after pictures, may steam it later tonight.
Chrome is not perfect but is much better than photo makes it look.

Its still a bit rough but its a lot better than it was and its steamable now.

It took a lot of effort to shine those wheels up even on a buffing machine using cutting compound. I had to W&D them first to get out the worst of the pitting before buffing.
All up would of spent 2 to 3 hours shining up those wheels.

Shame I couldn't bring the boiler up that good aswell but atleast it will run now.

Great looking engine. Still a bit 'play worn' but that's how we like them.

Great stuff there tmuir.

Just another reason why I don't repaint engines unless 100% needed.

Came up real nice with some work, well done

I didn't paint my boiler but if you are going to paint it just make sure you buy paint suitable for brass, if you cant find one then yes you will have to prime it first.

Depnds on the age Stephen. Earliest ones uses apple green, it seemed to get a bit darker after that. Up to todays standards where the boilers are very dark green!

I agree Sparky, the green on the new models is too dark for my liking.
